Working from home

I have been a teacher for the last 6 years.  I have had a lot of experiences, taught all types and ages of students as well as subjects.  I started off teaching ESL, then decided I wanted other experiences and did other things (subbing, job coaching, working in a group home, proctoring at a boarding school).  Last year I decided I wanted to get back into the ESL world and took a job tutoring two children near me.  I have been with them for just over a year, got some additional training, and took on more clients online.  Thanks to the virus shutdown it was moved completely online to my two children and their mom here, as well as five more clients (two in Mexico, one in France, one in San Francisco and another in Chicago).  I also just took a job in the early mornings once again teaching kids in China.

I am very happy with this decision for a lot of reasons.  I am glad I don't have to deal with people and their attitudes, potentially having them clash with me and cost me a job.  I am also glad I don't have to leave the house much and I can do the work in my pajamas.  I have my own little world where I am happy and making money.  Negatives?  I worry I will self isolate even more from the world and become a little crazy.

Anyone also have this issue?

I have a similar line of work to you actually,

also I much prefer giving the classes online, the problem you outline above does not seem as bad online,

more homeworking options might be one good thing to emerge from the current climate.

mortensorchid, it's great that your teaching jobs are going well!

I think we all do need to have regular in-person contact with people, although of course right now that might be more challenging than normal.

My job is normally done in an office, a large corporate headquarters with thousands of people.  For the past 3 months I've been working from home.  I have to say I do like being able to just wake up, grab a Diet Coke and start my work day in my pjs.  But I don't think I'd want to permanently 100% work from home, I would prefer to be in the office a few days a week.

When it's prudent and safe I hope you'll make sure and have direct contact with people socially.  I realized after 8 weeks of no contact other than masked strangers in grocery stores that I was getting a little phobic and anti-social.  But for the past month I've started having in-person contact with a select group of people and I feel almost back to normal again.

Extended work from home option is now more about survival, not something everyone is doing by choice. I am also isolated. Sometimes it makes me go crazy but situation is not so good around here. Stepping out is not an option even for mental sanity. Though I have connected with lot of people from my past in last few months. That has kind of helped me cope with the current situation.
