Singles Meetup holding first event at a restaurant....

Recommended Posts

Didn't know whether to put it here, or in the Coronavirus thread. So there's an overlap. Apparently, there's this new Singles Meetup that just popped up on the radar and 30+ RSVP count is on the list. A lot of excited chatter going on in the comments area, with joking comments like, "Should I bring my measuring tape? LOL" They emphasized social distancing and masks being worn, but I see this as being an unenjoyable disaster.

I remember some articles stating how in reality, this may turn into people pulling their tables together, especially if they cannot hear each other through the noise.  Thoughts? Would this be even an enjoyable event?

I would be too stressed out to have fun.

Like flocks to flocks.  So everybody going probably feels differently then I do about Covid.   Just like I personally wouldn't go to a singles meet sponsored by the NRA or NASCAR because they are not my interests, I'd skip this.  That doesn't mean it's wrong for everybody .. . . just wrong for me.

Haha, no!  What you're really saying is, "I wouldn't want to go to a singles meet with a bunch of rednecks."  For that, I do not blame you one iota.

I also wouldn't go to a singles event sponsored by BLM, Jewish singles of America, ELF, or a professional musicians group because I am not interested enough in any of those topics to search for a partner in a room filled with people for whom those causes are central to who they are.

I wasn't picking on rednecks.

If you are high risk or come into contact with people who are, avoid this like the plague, it is the enclosed space with a high people density that is the killer.

Outdoors with a  breeze or on a hike even wold be better even without mask in my opinion.  Just think about how this is being transmitted, it is the tiny aerosol droplets we breath out all the time.  Outdoors and moving (or a breeze, just be upwind), the solution is dilution applies.    If you hunt, think of theses droplets as a scent as it is a pretty good analogy, you want to avoid picking up someone elses scent, be it from a surface or the air.

Indoors these droplets fall onto surfaces and can get recirculated in the air, does depend on the air handling system.  I have no idea if this virus can do well in typical HVAC systems, but Legionaries Disease thrives in such.

Recall your typical mask is only a partial solution, it attenuates the range of the droplets, and stops some, but openings in the mask are too big to stop a virus or the smaller droplets (they do come in a distribution of sizes).  It's better than nothing but not absolute protection.

Also, for me why risk exposure to 30+ people when if you are lucky you hit it off with 1.
