Is it true that men are intimidated by rich or famous women?

Recommended Posts

This doesn't have anything to do with me personally, but I found this interesting, in this video I cam across, where a couple of celebrity women (Rebel Wilson, and Charlize Theron), have said that men are afraid to date them because of the celebrity or wealthy status:

But I am wondering if this is really true.  If Rebel Wilson or Charlize Theron met me and asked me out I'd be excited, and say definitely.  Wow a celebrity successful woman like that, wanting me?  I'd be flattered?  Wouldn't most guys?  Or are they right, that most men are intimidated by that?

I'm a women, but understand it completely.   Contrary to what too many men write here, if Brad Pitt asked me out, I'd say No.   A life in the spotlight, being gossiped about, papped and psycho analysed on gossip TV would be horrible.

Oh okay, I guess I just didn't think it would bring that much gossip unless you are with one of those actresses that attracts a lot of gossip more than others.

I think they are, but partly because a lot of guys feel that they need to be the provider. Since she's the one providing by being wealthy or even famous, the guy feels there isn't anything to provide since they often forget that "providing" doesn't always just mean material wealth.

First I'd have to Google to find out who on earth he is  😆

There are certainly personality traits that are positives and negatives. That rule applies no matter how famous or anonymous a woman is.

@enigma32  Your Wow emoji got me.   So I  Googled him again to remind myself because I forgot who he was after last time he was mentioned here.  I've never seen anything he's been in.  🙂

I don't do Hollywood very often.  Most of the stuff I enjoy is indie or British.  And both of those genres also have the type of leading man I'd prefer.  Someone who looks like the guy next door.

Nope....A secure/successful man wouldn't care one bit, and its actually huge plus...

The only way I see this dynamic in play, is when a woman(who in the course of getting successful/wealthy)_ loses that part of her that makes her attractive to men...At that point it has absolutely nothing to do with wealth or success that's causing a woman to struggle, but they just use that as an excuse...

TFY

basil, you ever see the movie Notting Hill with Julia Robert's (her character is a rich and famous Hollywood celebrity movie star) and Hugh Grant?  His character is an ordinary guy who works in a bookstore in London.

I won't give the story away, but they fell in love and got married!

Oh and Ryan Reynolds does nothing for me either. Neither does Brad Pitt and I wish men (mostly) would stop using them as some sort of male ideal women will automatically go for without ever even meeting them.

Maybe if I met him, we talked and there was mutual attraction/chemistry, I would.

But for the love of Pete, I am not going to go for a guy simpy because he's some good looking celebrity famous movie star, musician or whatever.

Out of several beaux in my youth, when I had money [sometimes}, certainly 3 of them hustled me. Not at all intimidating to get bills paid easily. After the first moocher, I was much more tight and cautious

Men can be quite different and so some significant % of men probably would be and some would not be.

Some men never seem to get over that initial social nervousness when they see a very attractive "regular" woman and are stuck for that very reason. No doubt some are that way with a relatively rich/famous/powerful woman as well.

I suspect many of these women want to date someone who is or is close to their social equal as well. Some are happy dating down no doubt, but I strongly suspect a significant portion are not.

I liked Hugh in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

I would tend to stay away from actress types. Firstly, the person they appear to be on camera is not who they really are, and I don't want a many-faced woman. Next, if they are rich, they are only that way because they are alphas who are used to getting their own way and expect others to be mere sycophants greasing up to them for favors or money. That's a recipe for disaster in a personal relationship unless their 'mate' is willing to be passive or a parasite, and that isn't me...

@Poutrew gives a perfect example of why women aren't all hot for male actors like some of the guys here are.

When I was younger, just out of college, a close friend and I met and dated 2 sisters.  He married his sister and they are now grand parents.  The sister that I dated was a guitar player and eventually got into a popular local band.  Being in the industry she knew a lot of the music celebrities who came to put on concerts, and thru her I got to go to many after concert parties.  Like Sony and Cher.  We dated off and on for several years.  Her and three other gals formed an all girl band, that eventually got a big gig in Las Vegas.  At her invite I flew there several times and again she knew lots of celebrities and I was introduced and partied with several.  And whenever the band would get a break she would fly back home and we would get together.  There was some big record producer back east that wanted her to sign with them.  And one night, while taking a break from the Las Vegas gig, I heard her talking on the phone with them when she finally agreed to fly back east to join a group that he was putting together.  The agreement was for something like a thousand a week while they practiced and she was to have a brand new Boss Mustang waiting for her at the airport in New York.  I drove her to the airport the next day.  They practiced, got their sound together, put out a couple of records that went to the top of the charts back east and were just about to go national , when the group fell apart due to drugs.  She came back about 2 years later, with a kid in tow and having kicked her drug habit.  I was not intimidated by her popularity, I just knew it was not a lifestyle that I did not fit into

Many men like to be in control and they can't be in control if their partner exceeds them in power, influence and money.
Film stars in the main are people who are at the top of the tree and many men cannot hack that.

lt'd depend . lf gaga was interested , l'd have no chance of knocking that back . But in reality , as her bf , l couldn't stand the life , or the fame , or their brain . And the money , just how would you live being an everyday person and an everyday job . with somebody worth 2 or 300 million bucks. l dunno. And then there the thing that someone like that is incredibly gifted , freaks, how does an ordinary person deal with that .

Mind you , l dunno why women like that would be questioning ordinary guys anyway , sounds more like just excuses to me because they'd meet 100s, more, of people in their industry anyway but what , none of them asking her out , what the drought is such that she has to resort to the mechanic that does her car , or guy that serves her coffee yaknow but now she's saying he's intimidated because he won't go there either , ahhh.  ???

Have you ever seen the Cheers episode, where Cliff Claven begins to date this plain Jane, that perks her up and she begins to dress and fix herself up and turns into a Fox?

Something similar happened to me, I met this gal out by the pool, first thing I noticed was that she had a great bod, covered up by a dumpy single piece swim suit.  A dumpy hair cut, kind of short, square along the line of her ears and big glasses, and she was reading the latest issue of Scientific American.  The truth was she was a total nerd, mensa genius, and was into using her brain.  The only reason she was out by the pool was she felt she needed to get the sunshine for her Vitamin D.  I was over 40 she was something like 27 and had hardly any boy friends.  She had gotten a degree from Berkley in micro-biology, on the road to being a doctor and a minor in Math, changed her mind, went back to Berkley and got a second degree in organic Chemistry, got bored with that and went back to school and had got a degree in software.  She was the head software engineer of a small software shop in Silicon Valley.  It turned out we complemented each other, she could explain to me the latest findings in Physics and astronomy and I could explain to her the latest findings in human history from early man thru the making of the new world.  She exercised at lot, 5 miles or longer walks, was the reason for a great bod.  She was all about her job.   A party for her was getting together with her nerd friends and playing chess?  Her dating history was bare, had hardly dated but a handful of men, and most of them only two of three times and the few times she had tried sex she hated it.  Even asked me what do people see in sex?   Turned out she did like sex.  About 9 months into the relationship, I had yet to meet her parents, we took weekend trip, to Carmel By The Sea.  After a night of great passion, while walking around the town window shopping, when we came across a jewelry store, she said let's go in.  Inside she told me to pick something out as she wanted to buy me something.  I'm kind of like "hunh?"  And she is looking at rings that run in the thousand of dollars.  I'm still in the "Hunh?"  She asked the owner what the most expensive ring he had and he had to go to the vault to get it.  And after he brought it out told me it I wanted it she would buy it for me.  "Hunh?"  I ended up settling on a plain gold Friendship ring she bought for a couple of hundred dollars.  That is when she told me that if we got married I would never have work another day in my life as she was she was very, very rich.  A millionaire many, many times over.  And daddy was worth hundreds of millions.  They hid their net worth by living like normal middle class people.  She was the second youngest of 4 girls.  All off her sisters were married and had grand kids for her parents, and she wanted us to marry so she could have my kids.  Her parents had given up on ever getting some from her.  Over the next 5 years a lot of pressure to get married.  I turned down all expenses paid trips to see ruin ruins of Mexico, the Bahamas, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Alaska, I almost bit on the one, and the last one was a two week trip to Tahiti, for scuba diving.  And yes she would pay for our diving lessons. From her parents, we were offered a down payment on a million dollar house, and was told their wedding present to me would be a new pickup truck.  I had been married before, it lasted a whole six months, so was not all that interested.  And yes their money intimidated me.  What if we had gotten married, and then broke up, with her kind of money what chance would I have at getting visitation rights, I already knew I was going to move back home a thousand miles away.  How could I afford to bring them to my state and to meet their other grand parents?  Just too much money to fight, so quickly moved back home.  Even then she pursued me, flew over to see me, a couple of times, and we had plans of visiting all of the Disney lands.  But I met this long legged blonde and we have been together for almost 25 years

I've got a thing for Charlie Theron, so there's no way I'd turn it down.  Rebel Wilson... nah, pass!  Even with the Aussie accent.  I don't find her attractive.

As for feeling intimidated... no way!  If Charlize wants me in her bed, only a pussy would be intimidated!  I'd tap that at night and strut around all day being the envy of most guys.

She is not really looking for a guy "to tap that at night"...

Sure, elaine.  You are correct.  However, fornication is par for the course when two people engage in a relationship.  So, it goes without sayin' that whomever the lucky sod that she chooses would be tappin' some sweet a$$ saffer booty! 😎

Theron in particular has had numerous news (if you call that news) articles posted about how she remains "dateless" but wishes for a relationship. This has gone on for several years.

I can only speculate as to whether she may have personality issues of one kind or another, e.g. attachment issues or perhaps is extremely finiky. Or perhaps she's happy alone and this is merely a publicity thing to keep some checks coming in, dunno.

TB it seems like in theory if you and your GF ever broke up you could get your chance? (Not that is ANY kind of recommendation.)
