What is a Writing Sample?

Recommended Posts

I am going to an interview tomorrow at a law firm and they asked me to take a writing sample. Never before have I been asked for one so I have no idea what are they expecting. The lady just said she would leave it up to me but that she did not want any stories, that I should already know:confused: Can anyone help me? Has anyone ever done this?

What type of job are you applying for? I just graduated from law school and have lots of writing samples, but I'm not sure how someone who didn't go to law school would have such a thing.

They are most likely looking for something that shows that you can write in a clear, grammatically correct manner with a logical format. If you have anything that shows that you can argue 2 sides of an issue- that would be ideal. I wouldn't give anything that was too creative.

If you let me know what type of writing you have done, what job you are going for, etc. I may be able to help you pick one.

good luck!

I am applying for a legal assistant position. I am not yet in law school and I have 1 more year to go to get there! She did tell me, like I mentioned, that she did not want any stories or an essay about myself. That's all I know.

An essay on some topic you've researched will fit. You must have something from school.

Yup, that would be perfect. If you don't have anything like that, maybe a paper that follows the 5 paragragh rules.
