Summer school outbreaks, teachers told to keep quiet

Recommended Posts

A local comedian in Florida, also a school teacher just posted this:

So let me just say this, I get about 10-20 messages a day. In these messages are first-hand accounts from teachers that are in school now, or have a summer program, and all of them are reporting virus outbreaks and closures, some of them send me messages from the hospital or ICU. Alarmingly, the number one thing I get in my inbox is "our admin told us not to post about it, so please don't mention me". This is disgusting and terrifying. People's lives are at risk and teachers are scared to speak out because the districts are pushing for reopenings while admin abandons their staff to fall in line. It is past time to stop the nonsense and have online learning. No kid wants to attend the funeral of a teacher, and no teacher wants to have to console a child that had a relative pass from this after they brought it home. We have to slow the spread of the virus, and schools opening now would be a disaster.

The bolded is pretty scary stuff.

I'm not surprised. I heard somewhere along the way that some hospitals have been penalizing their workers for complaining about insufficient PPE. Clearly, some people heavily invested in the system as it is and profiting richly for doing not much work (passively skimming off the labor of others) want to keep the wheels turning as they have been for ages. I have to admit that I enjoy seeing them squirm for a change.
