Meeting more crystal crunchers these days

Recommended Posts

Being of more logic minded, I really don't partake in the knowledge of the importance of crystals in these ladies' lives. I had recently met a lady that's a Buddhist (formerly a Catholic) and there's just something about this particular interest that I also tend to attract these types as opposed to people who are more aligned in my beliefs. Granted I am not a Bible beater of any sort, but is there some legitimacy to the whole crystal thing?

They are also big on astrology, and I have a female friend that's big on the paranormal and palm readings and likes to go on ghost tours where the guides try to summon the dead from within a room. I have to admit, I've been to one of these tours on a date a while ago, and I have noticed a good percentage of these tours are women.

I know a lot about this because I have studied crystals and minerals and published stuff. No one who understands science takes the crystal legends seriously. No way. No real truth to it, period. It is amusing but based on old make believe stories and superstition and trickery. Some folks feel better believing that crystals cure illness or keeps you sober or brings you luck. Okay for a token charm. Crystals are solid chemicals or molecules in geometric form. That's it. Beautiful and pricey. Astrology is more bunk. An old story btw is that a male and female diamond make baby diamonds. And people believed this nonsense.

I have very limited experience with it, but know that this type of “magical thinking” (crystals, astrology etc.) is often correlated with mental disorders. It’s often the go to for people who are struggling in life and used as a way to explain and / or solve their struggles instead of them taking responsibility for their own lives as that would be too big a blow to their egos. In other words it’s a type of ego defense mechanism.

Yeah, this one woman I'm talking to, she said she's a Pisces...I said I was too...she laughs and goes, "I can be okay with that, lol!" Inferring that though these like signs are incompatible, she's willing to make an exception...I guess as she can't afford to be too picky in this small town that she just moved to.

This other woman I was dating was into this whole "Non-duality" way of thinking...never heard of it, nor have any interest in this philosophy.

I tend to find these women not to be too grounded in reality.

...I think these types also tend to be a bit flaky in life. All over the place. Not much direction.

I actually know nothing about crystals.   I suspect that the women who are seriously into astrology and crystals (whatever they are) are single because everyone thinks they are too loopy to date.  It's OK to be loopy and it's OK to not want to date someone who's loopy.

Regarding ghost tours.....I'm both a sceptic and an athiest and have I've been on ghost tours before.  They are a fun way to explore historical premises and to have fun spooking yourself out.  Plenty of people can and do attend these things and not expect to see a ghost or spirit.  I suggest you lighten up on this one and have a bit of fun.

Also, if a woman asks for your star sign, have a bit of fun and ask her to guess.

I remember talking to this girl on Match about 2.5 years ago.  She was really cute, but it dawned on me after chatting to her for a bit that she was a little bit special.

This woman was studying naturopathy at some hippy college and had already quit her job in HR to open a home business offering reiki massages and other weird stuff.

I must admit, I was only kept engaged in discussion because she was hot, but there's no way I'd have ever entertained seriously dating someone like that.  She was certifiably nuts.

We never ended up meeting, let alone dating.  I'd hazard a guess that she's still single to this day.  Not through lack of male interest, but because her head was all over the place.

These are one type of girl you have a fun fling with and then move on (and get tested for STDs) IMO. Good for bed, but not for wed...

Wow...we must have shared a past life together. lol.

I dated a woman that studied naturopathy...she lives  in my area...the school was in Chicago (NUHS). THen she moved in with her parents in my area due to a break up with a beau in Chi-town.  Ironically, she was kind of a prude sexually.

Turns out she was really frustrated and triggered by the fact that naturpathy wasn't winning her any rewarding jobs in Florida...mainly because Florida (and many other states) have made it illegal to practice such a thing...that naturopathy was considered quackery among the representatives around here.  She had no real job, and just volunteers at an organic farm an hours drive away. The only money she makes is doing a medicine wheel once a year.

Speaking of HR. The woman I'm speaking about...now...is currently in HR...but not quitting said professions as she's been in it for 30 years.

So yeah...wow...hit close to home with a previous g/f.

Oh, wow!  Naturopathy is big on the West Coast, and none more so than the Pacific North West.

I've got no idea if the woman I spoke with actually had a legitimatly successful business.  What I do know is that she lived in a middle class suburb, dressed very nicely and was (otherwise) educated and intelligent.

I do recall she had some business on FB and referred it to me.  I admittedly cannot remember her name or that of the business, but I'd be curious to know if she's forged a career out of her quackery.

If anyone was going to succeed anywhere, then here in Oregon, you're more than likely.  The city's mantra isn't "Keep Portland Weird" for nothing, as there are a lot of different folk here, good and bad!

I'm pretty "woo woo" myself, but a high-earning professional with a high-profile, well-respected organization, living in a nice home bought with my own money, on track to retire with a nice nest egg, quite stable in terms of career, money, and the basics of life.

In general, women are more intuitive and in touch with feelings, and men are more rational and facts-based, skeptical of things not materially visible and quantifiable. As woman's earning power and freedom rise, these intuitive arts are gaining more traction.

I enjoy some of this stuff as part of the study of many different branches of philosophy, personality typing systems, and so on. I don't believe that crystals have any powers, but I do think they're beautiful, so I have a few sprinkled around simply for aesthetic appeal.

Another point is that while I'm not Christian per se, I do think one has to be careful with these "magic arts," as when taken too far, one can create space for "dark forces" to enter. My woo woo stuff is all about getting in touch with my higher power, angelic forces, you could say.

I date mostly intelligent, accomplished men who are open enough to listen to all my out-there ideas. They might be a little skeptical at first, but once I start reading them like a book, they start listening a lot closer.

Yeah ,my gal moved to the most useless state to start a career in naturopathy. I know some Chiropracters that see some merit to it.

Everything is energy. How do you feel when a dog enters a room? You sense the energy change, right?

Yeah...but crystals?

What does it hurt you??

You and other men in this thread are judging women who believe in things that you don’t. They’re only good enough to sleep with. What a f***ed up thing to say.

You are religious, right?
You believe in a man in the sky you’ve never seen. What makes YOUR beliefs better than someone who believes in something else that can’t be seen??

So what if people believe in star signs or anything similar?
Do they deserve your disdain?

I was just being facetious with the sleeping with part. I don't sleep with women like this, but it wouldn't surprise me that other men would say these ladies would be good enough until their more compatible partner would come around.

And you’re still being judgemental.

Meh, everyone's judgmental to a certain extent...esp. when it comes to online dating.

@QuietRiot you've spoken about this before

Are you still talking about the same people, or have you found more of them?   If it's the same people, it's time to let it go.   If you keep finding more, just put on your profile that you're a skeptic.

I'd say there's a difference being intuitive vs the dark forces. What is considered "woo woo"?  :)
