Should I delete my Facebook acct?

I see no use to it anymore. I only have 10 friends on there, I hardly log on, the only reason I log on is to read the news, I rarely post anything. And If I wanted to talk to someone on there I could use messenger. Isn’t it outdated anyway?

Many would argue that it's not outdated.  I am a member of many hobby related FB groups which are amazing knowledge banks.  Just this morning, I put out a request for help in an advanced project I'm attempting.   And last night, I received an invitation to an event via FB.    It's also a terrific way to get updates from distant friends and family.

Of course, if you get no value from it, then stop using it.

Of course.

Why would you even need to ask such a thing?

(are you one of those people  who  blames Facebook  when everyone around knows with near certainty that it was you who compiled your collection of personal data there in the first place?)

Facebook has really flipped its demographics,  I read an article that said the bulk of its users are now 40+ year old women.  Which Facebook loves since that is the demographic that spends the most money,  which means they can charge more for advertising.

Dropping it? I wouldn't. I've never really used mine but there has been a few times that old friends (high school and college) have contacted me.

Majority of ppl in their 20’s have ditched Facebook for Snapchat. I read that parents, grandparents have ruined Facebook for the young ppl. I honestly don’t want to have grandma seeing my posts. Facebook was popular in the mid 2000’s when college students  who were in their 20’s started using it, now they are in their 30’s.

I can always go on Instagram and look ppl up on there, I’m there for pics

If you are comfortable with your decision, why are you asking the question?

Well this is an “advice” forum. People often ask if they should “break up with this gf/bf in the forums. It wouldn’t be a forum would it?????

Older people have ruined facebook for the young people, that's so true.  I feel like I see mostly older people on Facebook.

Delete it if you want to delete it.

Since you don't like the platform & you don't use it, delete it.  No problem.

Yes, delete!  Facebook is a tool of the establishment.  It spies on you, and is built on feeding you the arrogant fallacy that the world actually cares about your life, your family, and what you had for breakfast.  Break the chains and be free!

I love Facebook because I have a lot of friends who don't live near me (and a lot who do) and it's a great way to keep in touch.  And they do actually care about me.  ;)

However....you're so right.....it absolutely spies on you.

Valid comment, and I know some people follow that line of thought.  But.... don't we have email, phones, and online video chats?  I'm not seeing that Facebook offers anything unique except the opportunity to be spied on by the establishment and one's employer.

Yeah, but all of that takes a lot more effort for people who are already so busy.  Keeping in touch/keeping tabs is so much more efficient and a time saver.  I can keep up with my cousin and her four kids in Syracuse without her having to email me, and my mom, and my sisters, and our cousins, and all the great aunts, and...and....and.... :)

It's just efficient.

I have obscure hobbies, some of which I know nobody else in real life who has the same skill.    FB offers me the ability to connect and share ideas with other enthusiasts around the world in real time.  One of us can pose a question and get instant feedback and assistance from someone on the other side of the world.   There is so much I've learned from my online communities. This is unique.

An anti-FB friend tells me that I could always ask Google, but she doesn't understand that you don't know what you don't know.   And some other things it's difficult to even know where to start with asking Google.

Yes! Another great thing about Facebook.  I'm an admin of a 9,000 member community FB group from my geographical area.  Could a member hop on Google and try to find a roofer/painter/HVAC tech.?  Sure. But, why not pose the question to locals and have 30 recommendations from personal experience within 30 minutes?  It is so much more helpful than Google.
