Tips for moving back home after graduating college?

22F, recent grad here. Just moved back home after being away from my parents since Jan. I stayed home for two years until this Jan as I was so happy to get away from my toxic household. My mother can be emotionally abusive whilst my parent's marriage is broken and dysfunctional. They often put me in the middle. I had to lie to even move out as I moved out to be closer to school (48 min drive). Anyways, I was able to have my personal space and freedom, which I dearly miss. My mom is overbearing as I am also the oldest. She also doesn't work and is home all day. Every time I go out, they always want my 15yr sis to follow. I am glad she starts school tomorrow, so that won't be much of a problem. I am currently looking for a job (majored in public health). I only doordash now.

Sorry to hear that. Living in what you call toxicity is not good. It seems you are doing so for financial reasons.

Get as many jobs as you can to be out of the house and save for an apt. Look into house shares and other affordable housing.

Yeah I am trying to get a public health job. As of now, I am financially dependent. My plan was to move out for grad school, but my mother is already mentioning I should take online classes/commute once a week to prevent debt and loans. I am not going to get grants like I did in undergrad, and the program I am applying for does not give scholarships. Even more, the program I really wanted suspended until next August (have not told her this yet) so it has been a struggle.

Pay some kind of rent & buy groceries which you can cite to when challenged about your level of independence.

If the program you want is suspended try a different school.

Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing, especially with groceries and helping around the house. What’s bothering me is when I do try to go out, my mom always want my younger sis (she’s 15, I’m 22) to follow me.
