Got in a physical fight in school...

Recommended Posts

Today in school im walking in the hallway and a kid takes the gum out of his mouth and flicks straight at my face, and then him and his friends laughed. I walked infront of him and his 2 other friends and I said "Do you F^cking mind?" . I walked past him and gave him a nudge with my shoulder and kept walking. He runs behind me and grips my shirt and pulls it and says "who are you?" I turned around grabbed his collar forced him to a wall and i hit him in the stomach twice and face 3 times. After he fell down His friends were swearing at me. I walked straight to the office and just waited there.

I got suspended for 10 days. I dont regret hitting him infact i wish i hit him more and harder. I cant stand people that just walk around and think theyc an disturb the enviornment. He got what was coming too him.

And now supposedly his "crew" is supposed to get me back which i highly doubt will happen.

My mom is upset with me and my dad is too but hes glad that i stood up formyself.

i think back and how do i let stupid things like that put me in a rage. I dont know what it was.. i think it was the fact that i was just minding my own business going to class and someone has to interuppt me like that and have the nerve to do that.

Well these next 10 days will be quite boring i guess...

You did the right thing IMHO.

You would have hated yourself (more than 10 days!) for not standing up to him.

Gold Pile, you can't be serious!

It is NEVER ok to resolve your issues with violence. It is stupid, base, and low. It was gum, fergawdsakes, and he was being a jerk. Instead of ignoring it like a mature person you made a big deal of it. This kind of hostility and angry reaction will get you in trouble your whole life.

Learn to ignore stupid people and the stupid things they do or you'll have a heart attack and die young of your own hostility. Or end up in jail. Wise up and grow up. And that goes for you too, GP.

When I was a freshman is HS I would ride the bus to and from school.. There was this one 10th grade redneck that used to make fun of me and my looks..( I was kinda geeky in school )

This went on for weeks and it was really affecting my self esteem..

I told myself one day that the next time he says something I'm going to walk up to him and punch him in the mouth..

That is exactlly what I did.. It freaked him out and he was scared .. He said he couldn't fight me on the bus and I was to meet him at the neighborhood pool at 4:00..

I did that to.. I got the crap beat out of me and I did get my licks in and caused him a good amount of hurt..

Even though I lost.. I had his respect and he knew I would fight him again..

He NEVER bothered me again.. the whole 4 years of high school..

GP is right.. You have to stick up to bullies..

and violence is the answer when it comes to growing up with bullies and the pecking order of society..

That day I learned more than just about fighting.. I learned to stick up for myself

I have to agree with GP and Art. It's not like the dweeb didn't have it coming; it was clearly an act with the intention of baiting FloatOn, to see if, or how much, he could be pushed.

Mind you, I don't know if I personally would have slammed the guy 5 times. But chances are FloatOn won't be bothered again.

Enjoy your 10 days off!

I think I'm beginning to figure out why some folks here are dateless. Hostility like this is highly unattractive. He wasn't being 'bullied'. Somebody flicked gum at him. This is a case of witless and inappropriate anger over something small and stupid. I'm shocked and disappointed that you guys think it was fine for him to beat someone up over GUM.

:rolleyes::mad::(

And as for you, FloatOn, you better get your act straight and get a handle on your anger.

And just who the hell are you to think you have a right to beat other people up because they 'interrupt' you? How arrogant can you possibly be? You are just one more dog in the pack, boy, and you better realize that living like a wolf will only cause you trouble in your life, despite what the goons on this thread say.

thanks for the insults OUTCAST.... WHO ever said I was dateless ?????

What is it exactly that you understand about growing up as a young man ?

You are a woman and cannot understand how the world works when it comes to bullies.

It has more to do with growing a set and exerting yourself as well as sticking up for yourself than it does with " a piece of gum "

If that same young man showed up here on LS in a year saying that all his friends and people in his life take advantage of him and he feels he is a pushover..

You would advise him to grow a set and stickup for himself.. Same difference

Right or wrong, the guy shouldn't be surprised by any response he got. You don't push people like that and then expect them not to knock your head off. I don't think pre-meditated violence is right, but I can totally see having to defend yourself and possibly put an end to that kind of stupid behavior with exactly the response the guy thought he wouldn't get. In a perfect world you would never have to do that. And people wouldn't openly challenge you that way either.

I wouldn't feel proud though. It's smart to think about why things like that set you off. Allowing yourself to lose control and thinking it was the right thing to do will make it easier to do it the next time when it may be the worst thing you could do.

I agree with you Outcast that overall, in society, violence will get you knowhere.

You have to understand that this is highschool. In highschool, at least in my experience, your social status or what people thought of you was one of the most important things there. He had to do something so knowone looked down on him for not sticking up for himself. In highschool, people tend to react physically instead of mentally because it is the easier of the two to do.

It is something that you learn as you get older that violence is not the answer.

I'm sorry but it was a piece of gum. People would have respected him more and not respected the gum-flicker if he had just laughed it off. Showing that a gum flick bothers you just proves you're a hothead and that people can push your buttons easily. It makes you weak in their eyes - all they have to do is something silly and you go off like a freak.

There is nothing impressive about that. Or at least there isn't to thinking people. Brainless dullards may be impressed by this and if you wish to earn the respect of brainless dullards, then you're aiming far too low.

Actually, it's got nothing to do with the gum. It's a challenge to FloatOn's ability to stand up for himself.

I have to agree with OutCast here. I think it's better to just be the bigger person and walk away.

Unfortunately, walking away isn't an option when one is amongst your peers, because - rightly or wrongly - it reeks of weakness, thereby rendering one to further, and possibly more violent, attacks.

I don't agree that physical violence should be a first line of defence (regardless of what George W. thinks). I agree that a rational response is the preferable method of defusing conflict. But in the jungle that is modern high school, any perceived weakness is pounced upon like hyenas to an injured antelope.

I truly wish it were different, but unfortunately it's reality.

This is so true. I was bullied for years in school and it made my life a living misery. My Mum always taught me to take the high road, ignore it. It didn't work.. I was seen as even weaker. I should have stood up for myself. The whole thing meant I didn't learn to stand up for myself with anyone until I was 18 or 19. I was a complete push over and used by anyone and everyone because I never stood up for myself and said, no, that's not acceptable to me.

I don't think voilence is necessarily the answer, but in that situation, I think it sounds like they were trying to pick on him, and he simply stood up for himself.

He probably could have handled it better. Maybe just one punch would have been enough! ;)

Trying to get into "guy mode" here. Let me just push my chair back, spread my legs, scratch my crotch and have a think about this.

I think I'd find it very difficult to simply walk past someone who flicked gum at me. I'd probably want to give them my scary look (surely you guys all have one that you practice in the mirror) and say calmly and politely - but with a hint of menace- (again, no doubt something you practice) "don't do that again". Seems to me that the main issues are

1. If someone does something like that deliberately, they're testing you.

2. If you just keep walking, you've failed the test

3. If you over-react, physically attack them and get suspended from school, you've failed the test.

I say let them know that you're not going to just walk on by, but give them the opportunity to back down. In a situation like that, if the person who spat gum at me gave an embarrassed laugh and started walking away quickly then I'd take that as a sign of submission and I'd let it go. I guess if you're a guy, the chances are that there will be a little bit of squaring up to eachother.

If your friends were there and his friends were there, then presumably they'd do the decent thing and pull the two of you away from eachother while you were still at the squaring up, glaring into eachothers eyes and muttering threats stage. That way you could both walk away without having lost too much dignity.

It sounds as if you just steamed right in there and attacked this guy without any warning. Overall, I tend to agree with Outcast. I think you lost your cool, totally over-reacted and probably made a bit of an arse of yourself. Oh well. Next time you'll maybe use your brain a little more and your fists a little less.

WTF is the matter with people? It was gum!!!!!!! GUM!!!!!!

GUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please God you can't be serious that one's entire worth and dignity can be assailed by the flick of a piece of GUM!

Have you all so badly lost perspective that you can consider this a major affront to one's whole self? You have GOT to be kidding me.

Look, the persistent attitude that one must 'defend one's honour' in every situation, from a car cutting one off to a GUM incident is what causes endless amounts of ridiculous violence. Get some Zen into your lives and learn to care/be affronted by things that really matter.

To set yourself up to think yourself so important that you are not allowed to be insulted is insane.

1. If someone does something like that deliberately, they're testing you.

So? Big deal. If they are so tiny-minded that this is their attempt at human relations, why even care what they think?

2. If you just keep walking, you've failed the test

So? The good opinion of fools is not a valuable commodity. So you failed the test of a moron and his brainless crew. Big whoop. This will not ruin your chances at a career or love. Any woman worth her salt will stay a million miles away from a man who could so easily be angered over something so stupid; who invested his ego so fiercely in himself that he would brook no affront. This kind of inane anger only bespeaks an abuser's future.

HE WAS NOT BEING SYSTEMICALLY BULLIED. Apparently a lot of you have been bullied and read a lifetime of grief into one gum flick. It's not there. And even if it was, responding with violence is still stupidity - which is what thousands of professionally-designed anti-bullying programs will tell you.

GUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you not handle that people have other opinions other than yours ?.. Come on.. It's not worth all that..

You have resulted to insults to try and convince people of your view being the right one... Not working. !!! We all have different views

I'll bet that almost 100% of all the guys here on LS have run into bullies and have handled it with sticking up for themselves..

The guy isn't going to turn into a serial killer because of a fist fight in school.. It's all part of growing up and learning about life and bullies..

AC, I haven't insulted anyone. I'm just dismayed that people think it's fine and grand to beat others up for any reason. It's so .... small.
