Got in a physical fight in school...

Recommended Posts

I'm just flabbergasted that anyone could get in a snit over gum. You do realize it's just gum, do you not? I mean are you paying attention here?

The offender didn't kill his parents. He didn't stab him. He didn't steal his car.

He flicked GUM!

I am incredulous that anyone comprehending that it was just gum could actually still argue for this is all. Boggles my mind.

Let's all crack open littlekitty's miniature of whisky, pass it around and forget all about this regrettable gum-flicking, punch-throwing, floor thudding incident :p

I'm just dismayed that people think it's fine and grand to beat others up for any reason.

I don't think it is alright to beat someone up for no reason.. you are right that violence is not the way to handle things in the Adult world.. But we all ( guys ) come upon those realizations by testing our limits and other peoples boundaries..

We aren't born men we become men.

The guy isn't the bully.. He was sticking up for himself... The bully ( gum thrower ) will most likely never throw gum at him again..

Problem solved

I can understand if a kid in kindergarten became agressive as a result of such an act. Perhaps elementary school too. But that is about it.

This is simply to prove that you can act like an idiot and feel good about it. There are career options, in which you can do the same for 40+ years, if you want to. Play football, do the same. The penalty would be about 10 yards. Not a big deal. 10 days suspension probably is a big deal.

When are people growing up? After three divorces, having two kids and having caused one serious car accident? I hope a bit earlier.

I turned around grabbed his collar forced him to a wall and i hit him in the stomach twice and face 3 times.

I call this excessive violence over a minor reason. There are other ways to assert yourself and when you get attacked it's ok to defend yourself, not beat the crap out of other people.

You have to understand that this is highschool. In highschool, at least in my experience, your social status or what people thought of you was one of the most important things there. He had to do something so knowone looked down on him for not sticking up for himself. In highschool, people tend to react physically instead of mentally because it is the easier of the two to do.

It is something that you learn as you get older that violence is not the answer.

Yes. Older adults who have not been at school in a long time maybe don't know exactly how bad schools are now. I think most schools can be very rough unless you are at a private school. You get eaten alive if you don't know how stick up for yourself. This boy went too far punching the other one until he fell down tho. It's more about talking back and showing you're not scared even if you are scared, because otherwise your life won't be worth living. If I'd listened to my mum about how to deal with school bullies, and just kept trying to ingore them I wouldn't of lasted more than a week at the school I went to.

This incident reminds me of a scene from "A History of Violence."

Would rather not give it away, other than saying it was very effective in documenting the circumstances leading to aggressive behavior, forced or otherwise.

I'm glad I don't have to go to school anymore, the kids are just getting worse nowadays. They'd beat the crap out of little loony. :bunny:

lindya would be spending most lunchtimes hiding in the loo with a little gathering of fellow cowards all providing eachother with moral support. You could join us in there loony. :(

Or I could recruit my big bruv and his mates as bodyguards

The fellowship of abused midgets.

I was told that when I was a kid I had bullied my brother so much that the school teacher asked my mom if someone at home was oppressing him... :o Now he is bigger and stronger...

The issue here isn't about gum. It's a game of dominance and submission which will carry on for months afterwards. Similarly, rape isn't just about body contact.

WTF is the matter with people? It was gum!!!!!!! GUM!!!!!!

GUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please God you can't be serious that one's entire worth and dignity can be assailed by the flick of a piece of GUM!

Have you all so badly lost perspective that you can consider this a major affront to one's whole self? You have GOT to be kidding me.

Look, the persistent attitude that one must 'defend one's honour' in every situation, from a car cutting one off to a GUM incident is what causes endless amounts of ridiculous violence. Get some Zen into your lives and learn to care/be affronted by things that really matter.

To set yourself up to think yourself so important that you are not allowed to be insulted is insane.

So? Big deal. If they are so tiny-minded that this is their attempt at human relations, why even care what they think?

So? The good opinion of fools is not a valuable commodity. So you failed the test of a moron and his brainless crew. Big whoop. This will not ruin your chances at a career or love. Any woman worth her salt will stay a million miles away from a man who could so easily be angered over something so stupid; who invested his ego so fiercely in himself that he would brook no affront. This kind of inane anger only bespeaks an abuser's future.

HE WAS NOT BEING SYSTEMICALLY BULLIED. Apparently a lot of you have been bullied and read a lifetime of grief into one gum flick. It's not there. And even if it was, responding with violence is still stupidity - which is what thousands of professionally-designed anti-bullying programs will tell you.

Wow didnt expect to get this many comments.. Just for outcast it wasnt just because of the GUM! If he simply let me walk away like i did when i walked past him and nudged him i would of let it go. But to come back and grip the back of my shirt and pull me back, just draws the line.

I wasnt having a good day all together anyway and for that to happen to you and people just laugh about it really brings out the rage.

Its also a sense of hurting your pride. Highschool isnt what it used to be im guessing when you were my age.. its getting worse and worse by my view. If i didnt stand up formyself there was he going to do it the next day to?

Iv never been ina fight before suprsingly... Who wants to be bothered when your in school thinking about what you have to do, and some ignorant bastard decides to mess with you.

I would of never dropped him if he didnt grab the back of my shirt and pull me like he was going to do soemthing... i also felt threatened there

I say you did the right thing too. Him and his friends will think twice before acting like dicks to innocent people in future. My only suggestion would be that next time you should kick him in the goolies, it hurts more and doesn't leave marks :D

As for the person who said violence never solved anything, try reading a history of WWII sometime. If it wasn't for violence, we'd all be speaking German or Japanese. Bullies don't pick on people who fight back and kick the crap out of them. They pick on placid people who think "violence doesn't solve anything" and passively accept their fate.

Art critic basically said everything for me that I wanted... Im not going to turn into a mass murderer just because I taught the kid not to be an ass. I dont walk around like im "tough guy" and i could knock everyone out either...Im usually layed back and calm but certain things at that certain time... could really bring out the worst in you

And yea he probablly will never throw gum at me again:D ..

The thing is that you could have done him great harm. Bodies break pretty easily and you can hit a spleen or something else vital and badly damage someone - over something so trivial. You shouldn't have nudged him because of course he wasn't going to stop once you'd done that. If you had just walked by, none of this would have happened.

I'm glad you don't regularly resort to violence, but next time don't let something that small and stupid get to you. If you learn early in life to not let others' stupidity perturb you, you'll live a much longer, happier life.

I've known guys like the gum-spitter. They don't just have "episodes". They have patterns.

Well, he stood up for himself and now people will think twice about bugging him. Sometimes it takes a move like that so people will leave you alone. Bully's are bully's and yeah, sometimes words are the only way to handle it, sometimes a smack will too.

He suffers the consquences now, 10 days suspension. What I would like to know is what did the other guy get? He wasn't innocent in this mess!

No. He flicked gum and pulled a shirt :rolleyes:

One would hope that people might acknowledge that five punches are an order of magnitude different from pulling a shirt.

I did the math:

2 x (punch to the face) + 3 x (punch to the stomach) = 9.6 x (pull to the shirt)

Not quite an order of magnitude. But your point is made.

Although I consider myself a pacifist/anti-war- I completely disagree with you. Things are just different when you are growing up and how you react to this type of a situation builds your character and how you would react when you are older. If you learn at an early age to stand up for yourself- you will always stand up for yourself.

When I was in highschool- the type of guy that this would happen to would also typically run away crying to mommy instead of doing what this poster did. That guy becomes a weak LOSER in his adult life because he never got confidence in himself. In his adult life, he is always in fear when a confrontation ocurrs because he never fought back and believe me, the way you deal with issues when you are growing up is the way you deal with them in life.

wow get over it... it wasnt your friendly pull... it was like he was going to drag me down or soemthing and get me on the floor... So i turned around and gave him what he wanted...

Im a 16 yr old guy, not the hulk.. Im sure if people survive getting hit by cars, and falling off buildings i think this kid could of taken a couple of hits;)

obviously you dont know the mind of teenagers these days... If groups of kids like these see a weakness in you... your done

Its going to turn into something from weekly, to daily, to constant behavior...
