Is there a way to get an emergency covid test done.

Recommended Posts

My work wants me to have the employees do it every four days as a policy now.  However, the health clinic will not do it that fast, unless you are showing symptoms they say.  I am worried my work will let me go and I can't work, and I don't want to lose days at this time.

So is it possible to get an emergency test done, with the results in two days now, so it's on time, without showing any symptoms?  For example, I heard of home testing kits you can buy, but stores have not heard of these so far.  Anyone know more about this, and if there are there are any catches to get emergency tests done for work, even if not showing symptoms?

Or do I fake the symptoms for the clinic to take me seriously?

My friend called me earlier, as her friend she was with last week has Covid, she went to CVS for her test and the results take 5-10 days because of the backlog. Her other friend went and waited in line at a CDC site and got her result instantly.

If your employer is mandating the tests, why isn't your employer providing them?  Ask the employer who their preferred vendor is.

I don't know the law in Canada but I suspect if an employer mandates the test, yes you could get fired for not taking it.  But you probably can't get fired if the testing cite didn't give the results back fast enough.

Methinks ironpony did not get the test done at the right time, so is now scrabbling about for a fast test, so he can present the results in 2 days and still meet the deadline...

Well there is no right time. I was just told to get one done every four days, but they will only give you the results back in 5-7 days.  So the clinic is not working fast enough to meet my work place's standards.

Just take your paperwork into work, so long as you got the test done there's nothing more you can do whilst waiting for the results. Houston is totally backed up with the test results. The pandemic hit hard here and it will take some time for the testing centers to catch up.

Ask your coworkers, boss, other employees, HR, etc. where they are going to get their tests performed.  It's really strange to me that you keep asking people on this forum things that your employer/boss/co-workers know the answer to, rather than simply asking questions at your workplace when you are given these instructions.  How can anyone on this site possibly know if there are emergency tests available in your country/province/city that meet your employer's guidelines?

I don't work with anyone.  I do a delivery service, and do not see any of my co-workers, or my boss hardly.  So it's hard to get an answer on a lot of things unless you wait a day, but by then it's too late for the liking on certain things.

I guess I also feel that covid is unbeatable, and we might as well accept that we will all get it at some point like the flu.  So why to fight something that you are going to get eventually?

Wouldn't we all be less stressed if we everyone would just accept the inevitable?

The company does not want their delivery people spreading the virus about willy nilly amongst their clients and customers, and the general public.
They want to have some handle on the coronavirus status of their employees, so they can pull and isolate the positive ones.

Sounds like you misunderstood your employer. No one can ask you to be tested every 4 days. Makes no sense medically or from a epidemiological standpoint.

Doing this would be nonsense. So it seems like you don't understand.

You need to use appropriate Infectious disease precautions, like everyone else that means mask, social distancing, hand washing and testing for a baseline only, then again only if there is suspected exposure or symptoms.

If by chance you did understand correctly, you need to stop working for this kind of crazy place.

Screening every 4 days makes perfect medical and epidemiological sense if the objective is to identify people who are infectious and to reduce viral transmission.

Well even if that is what he wants, the medical establishment will not do a test in four days since they say it takes 5-7 days to get back to you, so why get a test every four days, if they are not willing to get back to that fast?

I'm not sure where you live, but you do not have to have symptoms in order to get a test.  They'll test anyone.  If you don't know where to get tested, then ask your boss.  If your job is mandating that employees get tested, then I would think they should be able to help you out with a suggested place to go get tested.

Umm, no.  Have you even been paying attention to the news at all for the last 7 months?  Are you aware that a certain percentage of people die of this thing, at a much higher rate than the flu?  How many deaths should be acceptable to us?  Get tested and take the precautions.

I'm not saying we should accept deaths if can be avoided, I just didn't think covid could be avoided and we will all get it eventually.

But if I am to be tested every four days, what can I do to get the test rushed for me, if the if they say it will take 5-7 days but that's not good enough for my company?

So have you asked your coworkers or the boss to find out where everyone else is getting their tests done?
Seems like you don't see the point in getting tested, so are passive aggressively refusing to get it done.
BUT you don't get to make the rules...
The virus makes the rules, the company is just trying to keep everyone as safe as they can and you are spoiling it with your petulance.

Oh I know where to get the tests done if you want to wait 5-7 days.  I just don't know where to get them done if you want them back in 4 days.  I don't think there is such a place though.

Ironpony,  you started this thread nearly two weeks ago. If your work wants it done every four days, you should have had two/three tests by now.   Have you gotten tested at all?    If not, you're in breach of your workplace requirements.

Better to have lagging results than be risking your job worrying about the timing of results.

Yes sorry I have done tests, it's just I have had lagging results, and wonder if there is a place to do it faster.

I'm sure your work knows that results are lagging everywhere.  If you're doing the best you can, don't worry about it unless they say something.   And if they do say something, ask them where other employees are getting faster results.

But if he is a delivery person who works a “contactless” job, it is an increadible misuse of testing resources.

Well I think it would be a lot easier if the company had their own testing person, independent of having to test everyone else, and just work for the company only, if that is do-able.

Or if that is not do-able, why not just train us, workers in the company, how to do the covid tests ourselves.  I mean if they can afford to train certain people in the company in first aid and CPR, and how to resesitate a person back to life, then why not train us in how to test for covid as well?

Is your employer requiring frequent covid testing? Does your health insurance or employer pay for it?

What is the question?

The testing is free, if you wait 5-7 days.  I don't think there is a paying option but he wants the tests back in 4 days and I am not able to find a source that can do it that fast.
