Very competitive and toxic friend!

Me and this girl have been friends for many years and the past 2 years she has shown a side of her I don't really like.

She has been VERY competitive, always comparing myself to her, and always making remarks trying to put me down on my achievements.

For example, I bought a Mercedes 6 months ago, which is my dream car, and her comment was: "did you know the engine is not very good in that car"? EVERY single thing I get she looks for something negative to say, that I am missing or she has it better. If she finds nothing to say, she just doesn't say anything, can't even say something positive.

And sometimes she even makes fun of what I say, like I'm stupid or something. I am getting really fed up of her behaviour and considering ending this friendship which is not even a friendship to be honest. I don't feel good around her or telling her stuff. Any advice? Thank you.

Ok then just end the friendship.  It's pretty clear that's what you need to do.

I made a great friend from my church this summer, then discovered she was married to a convicted child sex offender. I called the minister of course and said there might be a child protection issue here, but what I've done since is take a step back. I dont know why she stayed in her marriage, and I would not have made the same decision myself, but I do care about my friend.

Sometimes we just have to take a break when people are high maintenance and stressfull.

Take a break yes, but I am wondering ending the friendship because I have already taken many breaks and every time we come back the same happens. So the dynamic isn't going to change, and I feel like in order to keep this friendship I have to play small so she doesn't get triggered and gets nasty.

The purpose of a friendship is to lift each other higher, not play small so the other is comfortable and there's no issues. This is not friendship.

Sometimes even friendships that have lasted several years have an expiration date.  I ended a friendship a few years ago because it just made me feel resentful and stressed to even think of being around her any more.  It's sad, but it happens.

She's jealous of you, so jealous she can't even control it. Best thing to do is fade a friendship like this as it starts out with snide jabs, and then one day will become more serious, like spreading rumours about you or causing trouble in other friendships. Jealous people are always a danger to you because they want you to fail and be miserable.
