QuietRiot
Saw a post by a woman, taking a dance class in the area with an instructor...making bodily contact, maskless...and her in group photos at a Zumba class (maskless). It's almost as I am seeing a normal life out there. Now, she talks nothing about the virus on her FB page, completely non-controversial page. So she isn't "anti-" anything. The "namaste" types. I have a female friend like this. She's a masseuse/yoga practitioner. Self-employed. Prior to this all happening, JUST before the lock downs, I had my last massage from her...I know she had said in the past she's immunocompromised....and this was prior to Covid. When I asked her about what she thought about the whole Covid thing (back in March) she says she doesn't keep up with that negativity in her life. Doesn't follow the news whatsoever, just keeps "living life". Now, she's not the type to hit bars and large groups of people, but...she's not stopping hanging out with a small group of friends. But there's the Covid-deniers, people like us who take it seriously, and then there's her...the more "head in the sand" types, yes?
Wiseman2
There's a happy medium between all the doomscrolling and staying informed by appropriate sites (CDC,WHO,etc) and reliable news media. Doomscrolling has been proven to worsen anxiety and distress about covid. Staying well informed and muting out the noise and nonsense seems like that happy medium. If people are postings vexating or ignorant content, the best thing to do is mute it 1

No. I think labels are unhelpful, especially ones which say- me sensible, everyone else stupid! Everyone is just trying to get through the pandemic as best they can. It's been an awful time for millions of people, and it's a good time to be tolerant and supportive of each other. 2

She's changed her lifestyle to suit the circumstances. And provided that small group of friends are all behaving in a safe manner too, you can't ask for more than that. The fact that she's not constantly scrolling her feeds for updates, getting upset about others and discussing it with all and sundry don't make her "head in the sand"

Clearly they don't believe it's such a dangerous threat, given they're not following any of the protocols. They are hypocrites. The seriousness of the disease is real, and I'm tolerant to a certain extent, but I saw a guy in England posting that it has a 99% survival rate, etc, ignoring the very real fact that a lot of people will be dealing with the after-effects for a long time. It almost killed the healthy son of a friend of mine. This is exhausting.
Ruby Slippers
I've been very careful, but I'm considering getting back to some semblance of a social life in the new year. I like a lot of time to myself, but the near constant isolation is starting to be a real downer.
