Is it possible to pay to have covid tests done faster for a movie project?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to make a produce and direct a movie project and in order to get a group of people together to go do it, I have to have the covid tests done every day legally, it seems.  But the people who do the tests take up to 5-7 days to do it where I live.  Is there a way to hire someone to do it everyday legally?  I cannot find any such person who is available to do this, but how do other businesses do it where it is legally required, if anyone knows?

What are your expectations for your movie??

What do you think will become of it (after completion)??

How do you define success or failure (in this endeavor)??

How will you feel if you begin the process of filming and can't complete it (because of money or Covid-19 or other factors)??

Have you thought any more about attempting to "live on your own" first (month to month studio apartment), before investing your life savings in this movie??

Oh and one more thing... What type of film is this going to be??  Is this a "rom-com" or drama or horror or family movie??  The only reason I ask is my girlfriend has been watching Christmas "rom-com" movies non-stop since she came over for the holiday.  There appear to be no shortage of romantic comedies... (dime a dozen on the free streaming channels) all with the traditional happy ending.

I hope to market the movie to film festivals as a means to break into the business more and get noticed.  Distribution would be nice too, but if not, at least I have a feature film on my resume.

I would feel pretty bad if it couldn't be completed once already started because a lot of money would be waisted then.

I feel that making the movie is a higher priority career goal, rather than living on my own first, as I want to get into the career I want more than my living conditions at the moment.

The movie is thriller more so.

I doubt a production/distribution company is going to pick up and distribute your film, once they do some background research on you and find out that you are still living at home with your parents.

You will be taken less seriously.

Ironpony, have you gotten funding and chosen the people who you want to do it and have contracts signed with them?   If not, you're putting the cart before the horse.

1. secure funding

2. find the people

3. worry about COVID

I don't think they can find that out though, unless they did some heavier digging which they probably will not.  But it's hard to get funding during covid.  So I was trying to figure out what to do to make it otherwise.

Here in the US, I can do a public records search on any address presented and have the results in 5 seconds. With a few key strokes I can find out who owns the address, property value, tax value, plat map, etc.

I'm guessing Canada has similar public records.

Any company backing a product will do their "due diligence" as step one.

Oh okay, but what if I don't give them an address?  But I don't think that is a big issue though and thought there are much more important things to tackle in filmmaking and getting funding other than where I live in my personal life.

Then they are not going to business at all with you.  OMG!!  Fill out any form (any where) the first few line items are Name, then address.

Any company loaning money or endorsing a product will perform their "due diligence".  Large companies have a team of attorneys that do nothing but verify facts and check information. They will want to research your assets, your liabilities, your credit history, etc. etc.

Do you think any company is going to endorse a film made by someone who lives with his parents at age 36??

Well I could move out then and get an apartment during this process of trying to get funding, if that would make it easier.  I just didn't think that that particular detail would matter near as much compared to others.

Get a (month to month) apartment because its the adult thing to do.  At 36, you should at least try to live on your own.

As for getting funding, I really do think you are looking at an impossible task. Perhaps if you had a short film that went viral on youtube, a film house may take a look at your work, but to walk in "cold" and ask for funding isn't going to happen.

Oh okay.  That's what I thought at first as well, but that other filmmaker I helped with hers, she was able to get it, without any youtube hits so I thought maybe it's possible.  Well if it doesn't work I could try my my own money to make it, I was just told to use others to take all that pressure off.

You don't know how she secured her financing and she isn't going to tell you all of the details.  And just because someone took a chance on her film, doesn't mean they are going to take a chance on yours.

You don't have enough money to make a feature film.

You may have enough money to purchase a small home for yourself, so that you have a place to live...  I do think you need to do a "test run" in a month to month apartment, just to weed out any potential issues with living on your own.

Yes I can do a test run at it sure.  Well other people are just telling me to do what other filmmakers are forced to and just grow a pair and spend my own money and do it, and don't worry about getting additional funding for this and then.  Just do it they say.  My film school professor said there comes a day where you just got to your money where your mouth is.   Do they have a point, if I cannot get any more funding?

Sounds like crappy financial advice to gamble your life savings.

You have no clue if you even have a good idea for a film.

A lot of films "FLOP" that people thought were good ideas.

Here is a short list:

Your film professor should have told you to secure your basic needs first... Food, Clothing, SHELTER!

Oh okay.  You said it before that you felt it was something I need to do or I will always look back with regret if I don't though, or something along those lines, where it's just something I need to do.  I still feel that way, but want to do it the best way of course though too, especially with these covid challenges.  I guess people who told me that thought I had food, clothing and shelter already.

You need to do something with your life... You need to research a career/trade that will pay a living wage. If the Canadian government will pay for this training... all the better.

It seems you are unwilling to try a career/trade or even an aptitude test until you try to make some kind of film.  You can stand still and do nothing or make a short film (and not lose your entire nest egg), put it on youtube and see how many views it gets.  Hopefully, that will get this "pipe dream" out of your head and you'll secure a trade that will pay for food, clothing and shelter.

Don't you want to try to live on your own and be an independent adult??

Well I guess my career goal is more important to me than living on my own right now but is it bad of me to put that goal first?

Logically, you should get the education (hopefully provided free of charge from the Canadian government) to obtain the skills necessary to earn a living wage.  In order to decide what you might be good at, you would need to take some type of aptitude test.  You might be good at HVAC work or CNC machining or fine carpentry/cabinet making or some other field entirely.  Again, I would think the Canadian government would have some type of aptitude test that could point you in the right direction.

Once you are trained in a vocation, then you could secure a job earning a living wage and thus be able to easily afford food, clothing and SHELTER!!

Your nest egg could go towards owning your own home or low-risk retirement planning.

Oh okay but the aptitude test I posted on here before, I was told was no good.  I don't know where to find the good ones.  I can keep looking.

Call or e-mail the people and ask about training.  Tell them you need some direction.  Directly ask them about aptitude tests and what you should pursue.

I'm sure they are asked that question 100 times a day.

Put in some effort. make some phone calls, send some e-mails. keep digging until you find someone in the job training and education department.

Oh okay sure, thanks.  There are tests on there.  I took one and it lists some jobs that may be right for me. Although some of these jobs I never thought of doing:

100%     Grain elevator operators
96%     Architectural technologists and technicians
96%     Biological technologists
96%     Chefs and specialist chefs
96%     Chemical technologists
96%     Civil engineering technologists
96%     Drafting technologists
96%     Electrical and electronics engineering technologists
