Inflikted
So, I live with someone who had covid recently. His symptoms started on the 7th, he thankfully had a fairly mild case and is mostly recovered though still has a mild cough. Me and the other person living here have not gotten sick or shown symptoms. I wanted to get tested this week just to make sure I come back negative because I had plans for New Years. I scheduled a test for tomorrow, but I was just looking up how to do it, since it's a self test and that made me nervous, and I came across info that this particular test (ID NOW) is prone to false negatives in people with no symptoms, such as myself. And aside from it being unlikely I can get in anywhere and get the PCR test results back before Thursday, it seems like my insurance will cover the rapid test, but not the PCR one... So I'd have to pay completely out of pocket for that. Sigh.
Lotsgoingon
You might try to call your family doctor. They might be able to refer you to a testing location and write up the diagnosis such that your insurance is more likely to pay. Sorry to hear of the bureaucracy. Yes, lots of the Covid test have false negatives and the self-tests apparently have the highest rate of false negatives.
Watercolors
Well OP, if you are asymptomatic you’ve probably infected your roommate or vice versa. So you both may have COVID. Instead of going out on NYE and socializing (which is, I’m sorry, very irresponsible), why not just go to a community testing site and do the saliva test. I posted a link in another COVID thread that lists all the pharmacies that offer COVID tests, and every state has a community testing webpage on their Dept of Health website. I think you need to prioritize what is more important here: going out on NYE to get drunk and have fun or staying home even though you may be asymptomatic, to take care of your health and prevent spreading COVID to other NYE people around you even if you wear a mask. I wore a mask for 9 months, and washed my hands and sanitized my cellphone but I still caught COVID anyway.
