Ellener
Will things go 'back to normal' as in-person dates following the pandemic? I feel like life is in limbo!
Fletch Lives
Yes, the pandemic will be mostly over when the majority of people get their shots. 1

introverted1
Not so fast. There's now a variant out of Brazil against which the vaccine is "less effective," although no one is saying how much less. This variant is already in the UK and other countries. And the UK variant is now thought to be ~30% more lethal than its predecessors (initial reports thought it was just more transmissable). I understand the desire to believe that we can return to normal once we've all been vaccinated, but that may turn out to be wishful thinking. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/01/new-coronavirus-variants-could-cause-more-reinfections-require-updated-vaccines
Gaeta
I'm going back to dating this June. Less risks to meet people outside. As per our 6 i'clock news dating is doing just fine, the dating sites are full and there are new couples everywhere.
Weezy1973
Dating will go back to normal, as will pretty much every aspect of life. Pandemics fade; always have, always will....
dramafreezone
Uh, I'm going to be dating like a mad man once this is all over. Singles are going to lose their freaking minds. I know when major things happen to the world people have difficulty thinking that the world could be anything than what it is right now, but things will get back to normal eventually. Sure you'll meet outside, but eventually you'll have to make physical contact if things move forward. Not talking about sex either, but just hugging and kissing. Wiseman2
Hopefully before we go the way of the dinosaur 🐲. It's not as simple as everyone get your shot and it's over. It's going to take a while. However instincts and drive are going to find ways for people to find love and sex. Maybe the new dating will look similar to after the discovery of AIDS. People may get tested and vaccinations together or whatever. Right now people are delaying dating because they think the end of the pandemic is just around the corner. However, when it's understood that it's not that simple, dating innovation will happen. And it won't be zoom dating. It could be Covid-status compatibility dating. Necessity is the mother of invention.

snowboy91
I know it's hard to see it, but things will return to normal eventually. Here in Australia we've effectively eliminated community transmission of the virus, and as such we have a minor number of remaining restrictions. We get the occasional outbreak from overseas travellers but they are quickly dealt with. From a social life perspective, people are interacting with each other mostly like they did pre Covid. For many people, the drive to connect with others eventually outweighs the need for distancing when the threat is not apparent. So that's what you've got to look forward to in the long term! I know this seems never ending, but hang in there!
Foxhall
hmmn perhaps long distance relationships will become the norm and people will date for a few years over zoom and skype before actually meeting.

Trail Blazer
I think it will be at least two years before things start returning to normal. 2021 will be the year of the vaccination and 2022 will be the year where things will start improving and the public has confidence in the vaccine's efficacy. I do hope that it will be sooner than my prediction, but I highly doubt it. Rest assured, humanity will get through this pandemic. We've survived through a lot worse and arrived at the other side stronger and more resilient. Covid-19 will be no different. Humanity will regain control and dating will largely return to normal.

I wonder, I have been talking to someone for almost a year who I never met yet! And I have sometimes thought the days of courtship letters is romantic. texting...not so much the same!
basil67
@Ellener I didn't know about courtship letters. Were they for when people advertised for a partner across the distance? Do you know if any are published? From my research, my ancestors lived near each other and married quickly. I do have my nan's diary from the 1930's and she writes about pop getting handsy after a couple of dates and her telling him off 😆 They were married within a year.

I tend to agree with you on this but I think the way dating will happen will evolve a lot more in terms of tech, perhaps something better than OLD will surface or because people have been locked down in many countries for so long there might be more a drive toward less OLD and more "go out and meet people".
