ironpony
I started a new job where I've had to flip my sleep schedule around, which is fine with me, the only thing is, is that about 4 hours into my sleep, give or take, I wake up having to go the bathroom. It's been like this every sleep, for the last couple of weeks since I have started. Maybe because I normally went to the bathroom at that time, before switching my sleep schedule around. But is there a way to go back to how it was, where I could go a full 8 sleep hopefully, without having to wake up halfway through to go to the bathroom, and then unable to go back to sleep afterwards usually? Pumpernickel
Yes, there is. If you do it long enough. I don’t know what the problem is. Many people wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. No big deal, if you can go right back to sleep after. And that’s usually the case. 🤷🏼♀️
Alpacalia
It's annoying, that's for sure. I get up multiple times per night for this reason (well because I drink a lot of water). But I go right back to sleep. Are you consuming a lot of beverages throughout the day?
Author ironpony
I don't think I am but I do eat more because of the job now. When I wasn't working I skipped breakfast usually, and now I am having breakfast to give me more energy to work, but that's all. However, I cannot go back to sleep after going. It's like my body isn't tired enough because I already slept off half my sleep, so I don't have enough to boost me back into it now, or so I am guessing that's the problem. Alpacalia
Could be. But, maybe see a medical doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions just in case.
Pumaza
Dont know if it helps, and people do wake up to go pee. If it start happen now, could be you are to exited about the new job? But some tips are : Dont drink a hour or so before you go to bed. There is meds for people that cant hold their pee for long. But its made for if you really got that issues and pee in your pants. Here you can buy it in stores.Dont know about your country. Wear a diaper, hey its your bed,who knows.🙄😛😄 And maybe your body just need to get use to the new bedtime. Dont turn lights on when you wakeup and go pee, get some night light,if its to dark,so you can stay in the sleep /night vibe during peeing and after. If you dont have other pee problems, i think not drinking a hour or so before going to bed may help a bit. Edited January 29, 2021 by Pumaza
basil67
Many of us have to pee in the night. Some do many times, some occasionally - it's normal. To me, the problem is that you're not able to go back to sleep afterwards. You've mentioned insomnia before....what medical advice have you sought on the issue?
Author ironpony
Well I've been taking melatonin which helps, but if I wake up after a few hours, the melatonin isn't strong enough to knock me back out. The doctor said I am having insomnia problems mostly because of stress and anxiety, but he doesn't want to perscribe anything heavier than melatonin because he says those medications are bad for you and can cause other problems. basil67
What active steps are you taking to reduce the stress and anxiety?
Author ironpony
Well the stress and anxiety I think is mostly not getting in the career I wanted to, so I have been trying to do that a lot more to try to reduce it. That and covid, and my best friend for many years dying about a year ago, which has some effect on it as well.

That and covid, and my best friend for many years dying about a year ago, which has some effect on it as well. I wonder if you'd like a course I'm doing, it's https://autismpartnershipfoundation.org/courses/rbt/ ( it's free, online and a high standard what I've done so far ) I've been performing for the past 20 years and have found myself increasingly using my creative skills as helping skills. And both are equally fulfilling. Also I developed an anxiety disorder which sometimes impairs my abilities or daily functioning some. Re. work I've often had to do supplementary work to make ends meet over the years; often I picked up new skills and new self-knowledge there too. Don't write it off as 'not getting the career you wanted', look for the hidden gifts in each situation. Things lead in unexpected directions ( and that is scary ) Re the night pee waking thing, I'm afraid it might be a brain thing nothing to do with the bladder; I tried all kinds of practical changes and even if I can't pee I still wake and have to get up in case...usually in response to increased anxiety and stress. I put it down to the behavioural training in children who were really too young to 'potty train', it hard-wires our learning. Women where I was born used to boast their babies never cried and were the first 'out of nappies( diapers )'. Not necessarily positive outcomes in tiny helpless infants! Author ironpony
Oh maybe thanks, I can have a look at that course. Thanks. Might not be able to take it now with work, and I am also taking another course as well, but I can have a look. Thanks.
Gold Pile
I don't know your age or gender. Many men over 50 develop an enlarged prostate. It leads to more frequent urination. Otherwise, reduce liquid consumption as bedtime nears. Make sure you are going to bed tired, adding exercise to your day if you're doing it already. As someone else said...try to keep exposure to light minimized when you do make a trip to the bathroom.
Author ironpony
Oh okay thanks. I use to exercise a lot more but it's hard being able to fit it into the day with a new job now. Is that bad if I fail to fit it in, or how do other people manage to fit it in with a job and everything else?
Author ironpony
Well another reason why I have trouble going to sleep after is because after I go to the bathroom, I feel really horny after. Is this normal, or what do others do about it if they wake up this way and want to get back to sleep?
