For those with asthma

Recommended Posts

For those of you that asthma, what were some of your signs that you had before you ever knew you had asthma? I know that sometimes, people with asthma don't always have all the symptoms of asthma. Some people may have one or two symptoms and some may have all. I guess it depends on if people have a mild case or a severe case of it.

I smoke, and have been thinking of quitting. Yes "thinking" is the keyword, I should be "doing" it instead of thinking. I have noticed over a period of time now, where I feel short of breath, I keep that drainage mess all the time. I notice alot of it in the throat, and can sometimes feel that mucus move around in my chest. I also stay tired and feel weak sometimes too. I know the best thing to do is get checked out by the doctor. How do they go about that? Do they do a asthma test?

I do not have any wheezing, but like I said that doesn't mean I may not have asthma because it effects people differntly as far as some or all the symptoms. The shortness of breath is not all the time, but more so than not. There are days I feel that I can not complete a sentence without have to take a deep breath just to get a second wind. Just thought I would get some feedback from those of you that do have asthma and maybe what some of the symptoms were that others had.

Hi Jade, I have asthma. Your symptoms don't sound anything like asthma. It certainly sounds like a respiratory issue but not asthma.

Asthma is the build up of CO2 in your lungs because you can't exhale enough. The wheezing is an attack but most people with asthma don't constantly wheeze. Yes, there is a simple test for asthma and any general practitioner can do it for you.

I don't know how long this has been going on but maybe you are developing a respiratory infection. It may be the beginning of a number of illnesses caused by smoking (I know of a few b/c my grandmother smoked for years before they found out that smoking was bad for you). Obviously I can't diagnose you but your doctor can. I would say it doesn't sound like asthma but I clearly can't say for sure. Go get checked out :)

Hey JS, yeah I'm thinking of getting checked out and see if they can do a test just to see or maybe rule it out. As far as a respitory thing, this is something I keep more so than not. I was thinking asthma was respitory related anyway, but not sure on that. Also I failed to mention that I have what you call a smokers cough, its more so in the morning than any other time.

Could be bronchitis. Could be COPD. Could be your heart. Quit waffling and get to your doc ASAP. Shortness of breath is never good.
