How do you figure out what you want to do as a profession?

Ok be a bouncer you don't have to be at work until 9 am... and you claim you have insomnia.

It's nonsense that the only side jobs out there start at 6pm.

You never applied asked or really looked.

Just like it's not true you can't find a therapist at 8 am or 6pm.

Well I've been looking at jobs that were hiring here and there but have not looked at jobs that were not.

Didn't you take some vocational aptitude tests a few months back??  And didn't they give you some suggestions as to what vocations would be good for you??

I feel like we've been down this road before...

High paying jobs usually require some sort of school or training.  They pay more because not everyone can do them.   If you are adamant about not going to school, I personally would consider painting houses, landscaping, etc - learn a trade as a laborer that you could later open your own business with.

I know it is never too late  to educate oneself but ironpony is already 37.

I guess he may feel he is getting too old to be a trainee or a student.
But many now retrain and change career  at all ages.

My current job only pays 12 Canadian dollars an hour for example

ironpony, speak with your employer about a salary increase, you are not even making minimum wage under Canadian law.  I just researched this and this is what I discovered:

In Canada:

General minimum wage from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022 is $14.35 per hour.

You can supplement your income by finding a part time job in retail or the food services industry which do not require college or trade school.

But heck speak with your employer about at least making minimum wage.

The tests said that I would be good working in the entertainment and arts industry but have not found a lot of jobs there so far though, at least nothing permanent as opposed to temporary.

And the jobs you do find in those industries will generally not pay well.

the vocational test was not very useful then when it comes to higher paid work.

Talk to your caseworker again. See if you can retest to see if you are eligible for any programs. It's unclear why you need a higher paying job if your parents take care of you, have power of attorney and manage your finances because of your condition.

You're dependant on them not just financially but because you need assistance with everyday things.

I thought the tests suggested "grocery store clerk" or something similar to that??

I found this in the thread from February 15th:

You stated: "I am not sure what I want to do as a profession, and I took some aptitude tests and some courses offered by the government which are designed to you me figure it out.  But they came back saying I would be happy working a grocery store, or cafeteria like environment."

It said both.  It listed the entertainment and arts industries as the first options, and it said the cafeteria or grocery store like environment as second options.  I didn't list the first options before, because people were saying forget about the entertainment industry back then.

If you don't mind some physical labor, to start, have you considered UPS?  At least in the US you get to join the Teamsters and then after a time (6 months to a year) you can apply for a driver job, which pays about $100K a year I understand.

I've tried physical labor jobs, and I actually like the idea of physical labor for the exercise, but I really hated working in the freezing cold winters before, and was trying to get out of that since it was wearing on my health after doing years of phsyical labor jobs before.

Oh well I wanted to move out and by a place and keep paying for it after a down payment which I would need a higher paying job for.  I could ask them to modify the test, so it will filter out only higher paying jobs, but not sure if they will do that.  But I will ask.

What test?
If you do not have the qualifications or aptitude to be able to do higher paid jobs, then no-one will employ you.
I guess they have been putting you forward for the jobs you are capable of and the jobs they have on their books.

With higher paid jobs you will have to compete against lots of people with more experience and qualifications than you do.

But I don't want to live with my parents until they die though either.

You don't have to live alone to be independent.  Rent a 2 or 3 bedroom appt and have someone else rent the other room.   Or easier, search the Wanted ads for someone who has a spare bedroom in a house or appt.

He doesn't want roommates.

I don't really want roomates though as the point of living on my own, is living on my own, so I feel that roommates would defeat the purpose of the goal, since the goal is to get my own place,

To be clear, I'm not suggesting roommates.  I'm talking about someone who lives in a whole other room of the house.   So that they aren't in each other's spaces and ironpony can still be independent.

Oh I see.  I thought the rent would still be out of my price range though, if the rooms were completely cut off but I can look into it.

With all due respect, if you can't afford to rent, you can't afford to buy.
