What does it mean when a guy sticks his tongue out in the picture?

Recommended Posts

Is this a new phenomenon on a dating sites? I've been using dating sites on and off for the last 10 years and lately, past month precisely, I've been seeing lots of photos with guys sticking their tongues out in their profile pics. I don't believe I've seen that before lets say 5 or 10 years ago. Haven't even seen any of them during the last year, or at least don't believe I did.

Is tongue sticking supposed to represent something? Like a guy is hinting about a sexual act or his preferences or something? Or he is trying to be funny or to show his sense of humor? Is it supposed to be attractive and I am missing something here? Mind you, I am not talking about clueless teenagers. These are men in their 40th and 50th for God's sake.

I believe, I've discovered a new dealbreaker for myself. Guys sticking their tongues out in a picture is a huge turn-off for me.

Ewwwww

My thoughts exactly. It's like one out of ten guys thinks it's appropriate to place that pic on a dating site for some reason.

Remember those duck lips women made in selfies?

It's like what makes you ugly is in.

A lot of older men out there wanting to relive their teenage years l think.

Maybe they are just trying to make a "silly" face or something?  People sticking their tongue out in pictures is not a new thing, and I don't think it "means" anything.  I think you're reading a bit too much into this.

Consider it an easy way to cull the swipe lefts from the swipe rights.

Possibly. But do they think women find it attractive? I wonder how many dates they get with these "goofy" pictures.

Maybe I am making a bigger deal that it should be. But there is something so very unattractive about men in their 40th and 50th sticking their tongues out. It is almost what I would call creepy. But maybe I am just being overly picky here. Or maybe I just don't want to date any goofballs.

“Look at me, ladies.  My tongue is out. I don’t take myself seriously. Aren’t I fun. I laugh in the face of social convention like making a normal face in a picture. That’s for basic B’s. Not a bada*z like me. I’m crazy. But you know what they say about the crazy ones. You should see what else this tongue can do.”

Going by the age range (40s - 50s), I would take it as an indication that they aren't particularly comfortable with having to show themselves off like a male model.  It's probably a lot easier for guys under 30 who have spent most of their adult life crafting an online image and taking selfies.  It's more natural.

For some men, it might feel a bit more uncomfortable to even attempt to take/edit a good photo of themselves for fear of being laughed at or rejected.  The easiest way to counter that is to act like it is no big deal (ie: tongue out or little effort).  Throughout the years some men have worn hats or glasses in photos or a long distance shot against a car or bike so you can't see their faces at all.

I think is just another trend to cover up a bit of insecurity.  Unfortunately for them, most women will assume he is an immature jerk and pass on them because of it.

That's how I read it, too.

A lot of people make silly faces in selfies, and I think it's often because they're uncomfortable taking a picture of themselves altogether. So they make a face to conceal it. It doesn't look good, but I don't think it represents anything deeper than being awkward in front of their own cameras.

Thank you Violet.

There are way bigger red flags to look out for on dating sites. Let's not go off the deep end.

I see this with both men and women.  It's a total turn off.

I've seen it with women as well. I really don't understand it

It's a guys way of letting you know that he'll probably embarrass you in public if you make the mistake of meeting him.

Interesting. Something to think about. Didn't know that something like taking pics could trigger a guy's insecurity. I wonder how they react to other stressors in life  if something as little as taking pictures makes them uncomfortable, How they handle stressful work or dating situations? How would he handle "the talk" or anything serious? What if I asked a tongue sticking out guy to meet my parents? Would he act like a doofus? I mean, we all have insecurities, it is just sometimes it is not very wise or appropriate to let them all hang out in the open for the whole world to see.
