The choking thing is part of that for some folks - known as "breath play". So, probably not an indication that he hated you. However, it's important to respect people's limits (both the Dom's and the sub's). If you didn't/don't like it, it's important to make that clear (perhaps for future reference, presumably not with him but depending on how things go in your life generally). Overall I have read that breath play/erotic asphyxiation is apparently more dangerous than commonly realized - NOT due to the obvious risk of overdoing it (although that is certainly a clear risk as well) but apparently there is a risk of a heart attack subsequently to the "play"/sex. Makes me see him even manlier than he is. However, the whole choking idea made me think be must hate me or something. You can be dominant without being a dick though. Being a proper dominant comes with a lot of responsibility and thought for after care. If you don't both align to it in the bedroom it will not work.
