Guy I assumed liked me basically told me I need a good man

It's a weird type of compliment-rejection. Like telling a guy he'll make some lucky woman a great BF/husband one day.

Yeah, it's just bullshit really. It's a red flag, a test, a game to see how you respond. If a guy likes you for real, he's not going to tell you to go and look elsewhere. He's not a martyr.

Ehhh, I think context matters. Maybe his delivery just sucks.

"You have X, Y, Z all you need is a good man"

*wink*/*raise eyebrows*/whatever

Totally changes its meaning.

I am not sure what this guy means unless he thinks you are too good for him and wouldn't consider him.  If you really like him, you can continue to see him and appreciate him for what he is.

The only context I've heard that comment has been when a guy really means "You need a good man, i.e. ME!"
