Failed 10 Panel Drug Test

Recommended Posts

Last week, I got a pretty good job offer.  It’s instructed me to take a 10 panel drug test which I did within two hours of receiving my order number.  Four days later. I checked in my with my Recuriter to see what the next steps were.  She said they were waiting on my drug test.  That seemed odd to me that the results were not available four days after the fact.  I waited a couple more days and called the company who ran the test.  I could not get any information from them so I went to the clinic who administered the test to see if there was an issue.  They had some trouble the week I did testing so they tracked it down to the MRO who received it two days after completion.  They put me on the phone with the representative they were talking to and she disconnected the call. As I was leaving, they said I would hear from my employer.  I said that wasn’t my employer and that I worked for another company.  They said that was good because I no longer had to worry about it.

I never taken illegal drugs in my life but have glaucoma and diabetes which I will never, ever disclose to any employer.  Having a disability is almost as bad as failing a drug test in employer’s eyes now.  .  I am on eye drops for the glaucoma.  Is this what set the test off?  Will the company that offered me the job contact my current employer and tell them I failed the drug test?  Will I lose my credentials through the state?  I need to work at least 15 more years if my eyes hold out.  So glad I didn’t turn in my resignation.

Glaucoma drugs shouldn't show up on a drug test, but metformin can indeed sometimes show up as meth/amphetamines. It's weird they wouldn't try to clear that up with you because metformin is fairly common. If you aren't taking metformin, is there anything else you take that could have triggered it? There are tons of CBD and hemp derivative-type products out there that can trigger false positives. But don't worry; they will not contact your current employer.

I’m still in shock that I failed.  Never used any of that CBD stuff or hemp  before because I could always get randomly drug tested in my field.  I do contact work mostly and in the past five years, I’ve had 13 background investigations, 4 drug tests and been fingerprinted four times.  Now, I’m worried about getting future contact work or full time work if I can no longer pass drug tests.

When  I went to take the test, the instructions stated that they didn’t want prescription information nor was I contacted when I failed.  So guessing proof of diagnosis and prescribed medicine doesn’t matter.  Thinking I probably dodged a bullet not working for this company.   Don’t think they would be very understanding of time off for illness or surgery if it was ever needed.

Get the testing company to give you the test results & the raw date.  Then go over the results with your family doctor.  You may want to get another test done for your own peace of mind.  The convoluted nature of you tracking this down & the fact that the testing company was having problems & had you listed as applying for a wrong employer is making me wonder if they mixed up your sample.
