What can I do about this production problem at work that effects me?

Okay thanks for the advice, and thank you everyone else for the advice too.  Well the manager is putting me to work in another department on the days when the department supervisor is not there.  But I feel that the manager should give me access to the order files, because then I can work on them when she is not there, on those days, and then we will not be as backed up as we are.

But if the boss would rather I work in a different department when she is not there, than I can do that.

Sometimes you do have to live with the decisions of those above you unfortunately, that's the hierarchy and we all fit into it somewhere... If the solution gives you something that is value-added and you're spending your time doing things other than mundane tasks that have already been done, I think you've accomplished what you wanted

Yeah it's just that the department I normally work in is backed up since I am not allowed to do anything in it the supervisor's day off, and it would be nice to get caught up more.  I mean customers don't like it when they cannot be served, just because the supervisor is not working that day, so that's kind of a bummer too, but if that's what the manager wants...

Yeah, it's not your fault if it is backed up and you are doing your job to the best of your ability.  Working in a different department while your supervisor is away is a good thing for you.  There is no way they can blame you for things not getting done if you are not even in that department at the time.  Just do your best in the different department and maybe new opportunities will arise for you.

Okay thanks.  I can do that.  The thing I find strange is how there doesn't seem to be a written record of anything and the department manager seems to keep it all in a personal file that no one has access to.  I mean if say hypothetically, something were to happen to her, like passing away suddenly, hypothetically, then the boss of the company would have to hire some expert to break into the computer files and hack the password to do so.

Is that really worth the drag for an employer to have to do in case they need to see the files in the company they own?  I guess I don't understand why a boss sets up their company that way, so that she doesn't know anything that goes on and only one person knows, and it's under a protected password that one one but her knows.

How do you know no-one has access to it?
You as a seasonal worker have no access to it understandably but it doesn't mean others don't.

The boss of the whole company said it herself that she or no one else has access when I asked her, since I told her I couldn't do the job because I need the files.  So she said it herself that her or no one else has access to it.
