Is it Possible to Get Covid After Being Vaccinated?

Reason I ask is I feel like I've just been hit by a truck, it's hard to explain.  My head is exploding, I can barely keep my eyes open!

I was fine an hour ago, this came on VERY suddenly, like within the last 30 minutes or so and getting worse.

I have a very funny taste in my mouth, like metal or blood, but there is no blood.

Anyway, I have been double vaccinated so wondering, can you still get Covid after being vaccinated?

Or could it be the flu?

I have had the flu and this does NOT feel like the flu!  I was at the river last weekend, and wondering could it have been something in the water?  Like a weird bacteria or something?  

I am too lazy right now to search on line for info.

Anyway, I guess if I don't feel better by tomorrow, I should get tested, I am so scared, I DO NOT need this in my life right now!

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated, thanks guys!!

It happened to "Chris Paul" of the Phoenix Suns, he was vaccinated (in February) and got Covid-19.

Yes. It's unlikely but possible.  However, the risks to you are much reduced.

Yes it's possible to contract Covid after full vaccination, not likely, but possible.

But it is extremely unlikely for a vaccinated, infected person to have symptoms. Most are asymptomatic, and find out they have it through frequent testing like the break out infections found in professional athletes.

Sorry you're not feeling well. Get to a doctor but don't focus on Covid.

Yes people are upset by the news about several deaths from the ∆ covid in fully vaccinated people in the UK, some parts of the US and on cruises.

However what you are describing could be anything from Chinese restaurant Syndrome (migraine like syndrome from MSG) to dental issues to just about anything. 

Although mask mandates have lifted, you can still wear one.

Interestingly, during the peak of Covid and mask wearing, there was no flu season.

Yes. It is. Typically "breakthrough" infections are asymptomatic. Which is not what's happening here. There are also some people who are resistant to the vaccine. Basically their bodies do not create a immuno response with heightened antibodies. And so the vaccine is essentially useless. You may be one such person. 

You are describing typical covid symptoms. It is sort of mononucleosis level exhaustion. But - you can also have mono coming to think of it. Best to go get tested.

Possible, not probable. Only one way to find out.  Whatever you have sounds bad 😔I just got over something nasty too.

Yes lots of reports are saying people are catching the new delta variant despite being vaccinated,

the vaccines though may at least reduce the severity of the illness,

that looks best we can hope for and get on with it.

Yes, you can. 

No vaccine is 100 percent. None from what I know. 

If you want to google this, use the word "breakthrough" as in "breakthrough cases of covid 19." "Breakthrough" means an infection that happens despite vaccination. The infection breaks through the vaccine protection. 

Call your doctor ASAP. Doctors have learned a lot about treating Covid since the start of the epidemic. Over-react now! Don't under-react. You'll lower your stress level. You'll probably need to get tested asap and go from there. 

So sorry to hear this.

BTW: the scary news everyone right now is keeping their eye on is this "Delta variant." OMG, the vaccines are apparently less effective against this latest variant than previous variants. Though the good news is that the vaccines still do a great job of preventing serious covid cases and preventing hospitalizations and deaths.

 Same here. Even with restrictions lifted, still wearing masks and won't eat out. But will play golf⛳

Every time I go inside and people aren't wearing masks (mask requirements have been lifted where I live) I think of that damn Delta variant. I put my mask on. Having had a two-shot vaccine, I'm not as scared as I was early on, but this horribly contagious (and apparently more deadly) new variant has pulled me out of my post-vaccine security, at least a bit.

Same here... I went to the grocery store this morning, there were only about 2-3 people wearing masks.  I was one of them.  I also put my mask on when I get gasoline, as well.

You can get covid even if you've been fully vaccinated, but it's far less likely, and it's far, far less likely that  you'll need to be hospitalized or die from it.  Even at 95% effectiveness for a vaccine, that leaves 5% susceptible to some degree.

Hi Lemming, thnx for asking, I'm better, I don't have Covid!

Not all the way but at least it wasn't Covid or that new virus Delta Variant?

Glad that you are feeling better. It is possible to get COVID while fully vaccinated but unlikely. Vaccine actually doesn't stop you from getting COVID but it does stop the virus from replicating. This means that your chance of actually testing positive for COVID are very slim due to low viral load. Chances of you having any symptoms are even smaller. I think Pzifer protects about 95% against laboratory testing positive.

NO vaccine is 100% and believe the COVID ones are like 97%.  So certainly yes it is possible, and given millions of people have been vaccinated you will certainly hear stories of people getting COVID who are fully vaccinated.  (Yet like some cruise-line stories where they never asked for proof and just took people's word, some of those who got it and said they were vaccinated were not, surprise, surprise).

So out of the 10's of millions vaccinated in the US how many stories do we hear?  You just are not going to hear of all the times a vaccine protected someone, like how you never hear of all the cars that don't get in accidents....that is just not news (or click bait)

Then even if you get COVID after vaccination, just as important is how severe it is.  If is no "worse" than a flu that lays you up for a week better than being on a respirator.  

It's all cost benefit, no guarantees in life but one can certainly tilt the odd massively in your favor with a  vaccine...along with giving the virus one less being to grow and mutate in.  As long as it is out there in enough people there is always a chance a more dangerous variant will arise as viruses are constantly mutating.

It's not completely resistant to the delta variant. That one is amping up where I live right now and I know several vaccinated people who caught it. They are not hospitalized but feel pretty dang awful.

Yes, apparently it is possible to get Covid even after being vaccinated.  For most people, it will be asymptomatic or with only mild symptoms.  A few unlucky people might end up in hospital.  Vaccines do not protect completely but they do reduce the risk of serious illness and hospitalisation.

So glad to hear you are feeling a bit better, Poppy.  Glad that it's not Covid.

Over here in the UK, we have had 'freedom day'.  This was when the Government in its wisdom (lack of) decided enough people had been vaccinated in the UK for our country to take the risk of seeking herd immunity.  Many young people have not been vaccinated and of course children haven't, so they will bear the brunt of the spread now.

Also, people who have had the vaccines but who still do not wish to take the risk of catching the virus and being amongst the few who will still get pretty ill, have pretty much had to go back to hiding at home again.

The people have been left to their own judgement as to whether they want to wear a mask or not, so the populace is being pitted against each other in places we need to go, like supermarkets.  The NHS appears to have decided people should still wear masks in health care settings.  Many public transport companies want people to wear masks but are having to individually bring in rules as part of their contract to carry passengers.  

The clinically vulnerable are back to hiding at home again and those who have to go out to work are having to put themselves at risk or lose their jobs.

As more and more people catch Covid, even if they have been vaccinated and only get it mildly, the chances of a new variant developing are increased.

Well, it's great to part of this grand experiment with people's lives!
