So I have an interview at a bar tomorrow but don't have license or xp

I was thinking about moonlighting at a bar until school starts to make some quick cash, so I emailed this bar I like and asked if they’re hiring. They didn’t ask anything but said they need a temp worker. So I said im totally free. So im going in tomorrow and I’m not sure what to expect but I don’t feel prepared at all. Wondering if this has any chance at all or should just skip? Live in Indiana

When you say that you don't have a license, I'm assuming that you're referring to responsible service of alcohol license.  

If they needed you to start tomorrow, the lack of a license would be a problem. But as they want you for a temp, if you're keen for the job, tell them that you'll get a license ASAP.   Bar skills are always good as an emergency backup.   And for that matter, to earn cash while you're at school.   

You'll probably get hit on by loads of patrons there too.  Would this be a good or bad thing?

Ty basil, that gave me a bit of encouragement to at least go. I’m not sure how long it takes to get a license in my state but I read something like up to 4 mo 😳

 

&  prob not great , I didn’t even think of that but I don’t know until I get xp.

Oh yes, go for the interview and find out what the temp work is if you're not sure or have questions. It's good experience going for and practicing for interviews either way. Good luck!

Wow, my daughter did her liquor license in one day.  Also one day for responsible gambling.   Four months sounds a bit extreme....unless that's the wait list?

It's a pretty low level type of job so they're not looking for lot of qualifications. So nothing to be nervous about.

Go  fill out the application, see what happens.

They’re not looking for much qualifications but I’m pretty sure one of them is having a license to even be able to serve alcohol , but maybe I’m wrong

that’s cool, basil. i think liquor license is different than bartender’s license in my state. have no idea why it’s so long but yea I do think they only are allowed to give a certain amount at a certain time

Just updating to say I decided to pass up on this job partly because  of what basil mentioned about being hit on by drunk people and also because I just can’t with school.

It’s not that kind of pub, it’s not an eatery. It’s a bar that has just s couple types of food. Im interviewing to be a fill in bartender and from all I researched you need a license to be one in Indiana, USA
 

I don’t really need the money that much and just can’t with school though I’d like to.

No it’s like a law in our state we need a permit to serve alcohol. Its dumb. Also It’s not practical for me to have a job especially when school starting in less than a month. I really don’t know what I was thinking(once again).

From everything I read places like this are desperate for workers at the moment, so you should have an easy time. If there's a booze license needed, maybe you can do something else so that those who do have the lic can focus on serving folks. Consider suggesting that.

If you're starting school soon they might be willing to keep you at convenient hours (for you) if making some spare $ is something you want to do. Not sure if you're up for that tho. It's hard to say whether these jobs during school sometimes do as much harm as good if they distract from a better, more career-type job that you're getting a degree for, so guess it all depends on the specifics.

just a quick edit so I can try and relate to you. In my past I was hired solely on my personality and enthusiasm. People want to hire those that are good for business, not just some dildo with a bit of paper who’s certified

There is a certificate required for serving liquor at a  bar or restaurant here (not as a bartender but as a server or wait staff). It sounds similar in Indiana.

Lots of people work and juggle college without issues. I did it and as a single mom. So, it can be done! You just need the right job.

I worked as a full time receptionist/personal assistant all throughout college. We just waited at a desk until someone at the office location needed something. It ranged from ordering lunch to making reservations for something. It helped we were allowed to do school work in between. We were all full time students working full time.

Thank you so much guys for your advice. I completely understand how that may be possible for smart people, but I am in a doctor of pharmacy program. It is way too hard for me as it is. I almost failed out of all of my classes p3 because I slacked. My parents also advise me to not work to and I completely understand because 100% of my focus needs to go to my education once it starts. That means no to very little loveshacking for me also. Boo hiss

That's a challenging program. Yes, focus on your PharmD. Congrats for getting in.

Consider quitting the 420 or dialing it way down. Short-term memory, etc...
