(1) Get a second job (2) Look for a room rental in your area (google "room rental + city/town you live in") (3) Crash on a friend's couch (buddy of mine wanted to divorce his wife and crashed on my couch for 2 months until he found an apartment he could afford)
BaileyB
Consult a lawyer. Learn what you are entitled to receive in a divorce - if you sell the home, you will get half (assuming your name is on the title). Does anything change if you leave the home? Are you eligible for spousal support? Educate yourself and create a plan.
mark clemson
^^ if you are in the US many "family attorneys" (who often handle divorces) will give free 1/2 hour consults. You can visit several and find one you like as well as get some of your questions answered for free and find out what the broad parameters of a divorce settlement might look like in your specific case. What would you like to do? Your title says you’re holding on? Is there a reason for that?
Lotsgoingon
Schedule visits as @mark clemsonsays with multiple divorce attorneys. These will be free consultations. Some will actually go past a half hour--depends on their schedule and all. Some have a half-hour free policy, but then go longer. You need to learn the first steps on how to protect yourself. The divorce attorneys (and yes lots of divorce attorneys work under the "family law" banner) will know your options and help you think about what's going on. The goal is to not get outmaneuvered and squashed by a mean spouse who controls the money. Meeting attorneys is the best step. You can even ask them, "hey, I don't have money, how can I get money to pay for you" and they will give you suggestions or that to. You will eventually need to hire someone---but you don't need money for the first consult. BTW: one of the great benefits of the internet is that there are online forums and support groups for every topic. Google online divorce forums and look through the discussions and you should be able to find people who were in your exact situation and you can read how they went about things. Hang in there.
