Pregnant

Need some advice. Hope it’s the right forum. I came out of a long term relationship back in may/June met someone else quite quickly who I believe is my soulmate. Things progressed to the point where I feel he’s the one and he feels the same. I began taking contraception and unfortunately it didn’t work so I am now pregnant and terrified. We are in a relationship and he’s been the most supportive partner considering it’s only been weeks 😓 he has said he’ll support me whatever the decision I make and it’s not ideal considering but he’s not going anywhere. I am just so torn as what to do. I want children but this was totally unexpected and I’m 32 now so this could be my only chance. He said I shouldn’t think like that because I’ll always have a chance. My parents said they will be disappointed if I chose to not have this baby which I don’t think is fair. Obviously this will be soley my decision but I have no idea what to do. Feel so scared. Advice would be much appreciated.

He's being neutral and kind. But you may to read between the lines.

Whatever you decide at least he's offering his support.  Your parents can't help that they will be disappointed.  I don't think you can control that.

If you want the child, you can have the child assuming that you have the financial means to support a child.

That said, you have known this man for a matter of weeks. Not saying that it won’t work out or that he wouldn’t support your child if the relationship ended… but, you don’t know what’s going to happen because it’s far too soon and you don’t really know the man. I would phone for the best but make decisions assuming that I will be a single parent - because you may well be.

  • 2 weeks later...

The child is here now. I would listen to your parents if I were you. They are old enough to know that life sometimes throws curveballs, and some things that seem scary at first end up being wonderful blessings.

That being said, you barely know this guy. Everyone is wonderful the first few months, then the real person starts emerging after the honeymoon period. This man has a mixture of awesome traits and flaws, just as everyone else does. You have a while until your baby is due, which is plenty of time to get all your ducks in a row just in case.

Women have been having babies since the beginning of time, and hardly anyone has everything figured out the first few weeks of pregnancy, so you are certainly not alone.
