NorthernGuard
I've gotten myself into trouble and been given warnings from moderators a few times now regarding my language. I readily admit when I read a post that gets me fired up my potty mouth tends to make an appearance. Sorry about that. I'm obviously now aware swear words are banned and have refrained from using them, but wasn't aware words that aren't actual swear words are also banned and I've just got another warning for using those instead. Is there a list I can refer to to know what can't be used so I can stop finding out by way of being given infractions after the fact? I thought I was ok because I'd replaced the swear words with non swearing equivalents but apparently not and I wanna keep myself from getting banned permanently. Thanks 1
Lisa Posted September 29, 2021 Senior Moderators Share Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) Hi NorthernGuard, thank you for reaching out. Given our clean up of the boards, I'm sure you're not the only one with this question. No, we don't have a list as I'm sure you'd appreciate that we would be be in breach of our conditions to publish them. Also, language is ever changing and people are inventive, so it's more about going on the directive for language reminders: Use language that not only reflects proper terminology, but that is in no way vulgar, profane, obscene, pornographic, demeaning, or pejorative to the subject being described or those contributing to the discussion. Broadly speaking, we do recognize that some words are obviously in breach while others are far 'softer', but for the sake of fairness we are taking the line of removing all questionable words. We don't want to get into the situation of debating "if this word was OK, why not that word?" In short, if you stick to using formal English and avoid questionable slang, you can't go wrong. Thanks for the reply and info, Lisa. I just noticed an email notification where I got hit again for something I'd posted before I'd made this post regarding the one that sent me here (tho it seemed to be cancelled as I couldn't click the acknowledgement). Going forward I'll be sure to keep all this in mind. No banned language (that I'm aware of anyhow) in my most current post.
