Pumpernickel
Is eyelid surgery worth it? Has anybody done it? I’ve got somewhat hooded eyelids that run in the fam, and they’ve naturally gotten worse with aging. Rather than a facelift (against the sagging in general) which in my opinion is more noticeable when somebody gets it done (even if it’s only a mini lift), I’m thinking an eyelid and brow lift could have similar effects, like “opening up” the face. Thoughts?
jspice
I haven’t but I lived in South Korea for a long time. There eyelid surgery is “ just basic” in the words of my students. They don’t do it for sagging lifs but to put a crease in it to open up their eyes. It’s such a quick thing with good results. I say go for it. Maybe check out some peoples experiences online. 1
Wiseman2
Read up on the complications. Make sure you consult with a well trained board certified reconstructive plastic surgeon. Keep in mind, it involves more than cosmetics, because in poorly done or complicated cases problems can result in major ophthalmological issues, ranging from dry eye to asymmetry to a host of issues. Do your research well and get a second opinion on the best options for your situation.
missgangrene
At some point, I’ll get this surgery because the sagging eyelid thing runs in my family. You should look at the site Real Self. It’s really helpful to see people’s results and experiences, and you can also find surgeons. I think the biggest worry is that the surgery isn’t subtle and completely changes your facial appearance. The Korean plastic surgeon market has perfected it, so I look at a lot of those before and after pics for good examples.

poppyfields
I'm eastern European and hooded lids are fairly standard. My dad had eyelid surgery when he was 60 and it took 20 years off his age, and improved his quality of life in so many ways because his sagging lids impaired his eyesight. He could read again! For minor hooded lids did you know Botox injected in a certain area under the brow will also lift the lid temporarily? Make sure to have it done by a board certified plastic /cosmetic surgeon. Lasts about 5-6 months. My right lid is a bit more hooded than the left (I call it a lazy eye) and was thinking of having that done, it's not expensive. A couple of hundred bucks. Yup - getting it 2-3 times a year (ca. +400$ per treatment), including the eyebrow lift. Works great, but at some point I think a somewhat more permanent solution will be in order. So there is something else I sometimes use for the right lid - it's called Eye Magic Instant Eye Lift. They're thin clear strips placed right along the crease of the lid (one strip), and it lifts the lid beautifully, it really is like magic! You can't see the strip at all when placed correctly. Amazon.com - $18.95. I use it occasionally for photos and special occasions. Rest of the time, I wear mascara that lengthens my lashes and covers the hood for the most part. But eventually I will try the Botox and then have the surgery like my dad cause it is hereditary and will get worse. Good luck! I think you should go for it too!
