So I was thinking about priorities.

I found a good list that I think could work for me too. In order of importance:

(1) Health
(2) Work/School
(3) Family
(4) Community

Where does everyone fall on list of priorities in life and works well for you?

It helps writing it down if you’re trying to refocus but the list may shift depending on life’s circumstances at a given time. I’d leave out the numbering or order system and have a loose group of items that mean a lot to you.

As you dedicate more time and effort to those things whether it’s family, community, health or work it becomes ingrained. You won’t have to think about your priorities too much. You may have added responsibilities also which govern your time and open new opportunities that inspire you to be more of what you want to be.

The part that counts most is putting it to practice or engaging with what matters most to you.

Thanks glows.

I like this. 🙂

I once read the biggest things that influence your happiness are your profession (satisfaction/money), your location (home/geographical location) and your partner (compatible/in love). If there is strife/distress any one of those areas, you'll be unhappy.

good thread as always, @ Alpaca,

Personally,

Health -Physical Health definitely at the top,

then ones mental health is important- perhaps as alluded above that encompasses a few things such as relationships, friendships, money and job satisfaction,

Freedom is also a big one for me,  not being under the thumb or answerable to many or any people!

healthy eating, fitness all that,

keep learning- gaining knowledge about everything

still striving to find that something I can really thrive at, dont like my job working in the financial area,

seeking something to liberate me whatever that is.  leave a legacy I suppose if want to go deeper.

Thank you kind sir!

Yes, the not liking a current profession seems to be a big one for a lot of people.

Do you think you would ever consider switching jobs?

The ones you listed are really good and I definitely need to practice a lot of some of the things you mention more.

The first two listed are more self-directed while the last two seem more altruistic?

But I kind of feel like if I don't have the first two in place then I won't be much good with the other two.

I also like the thought of practicing gratitude and resilience.

There was a thread a while back about gratitude that a member posted which I thought was a really good idea.

There are a whole lot of great ideas in the thread.   The thing with gratitude and resilience is that they underpin all the other suggestions you've made.

Thing is, things like work and family and community do come with challenges, and it's the gratitude and resilience which get us over the humps and keep going.

Thank you very much, basil67.

Is there anything you would recommend we do to cultivate gratitude and resilience?

One of the things I did was go back to school to switch careers because I felt like the one I had didn't fulfill me.

It's great that you took the chance in changing careers.  I expect resilience would have come into that decision - the confidence to take a chance, but know that you'll be OK if the new career didn't work for you.  I say this because that confidence that you'd be OK one way or another was what underpinned you in taking the chance.  It's the same with love - knowing that you've given it your best, but also knowing that if it all goes pear shaped, you'll be OK.  Sure, you might get mad and grieve and all that...but you know that eventually you'll be OK.

It's hard to say how to cultivate these things.   With gratitude, I look at tangible things.  Having a roof over my head, food on the table, a loving partner....that kind of thing.  You may have read that I'm also a carer to our disabled son . This can be very challenging.  But the mindset I need came from a paediatrician when he was young: I'd sat in his office with a litany of complaints and he asked me what was going well.  It was like a light turned on and I realised that I needed to count blessings there too.  So each of his gains is also a blessing.

Sorry I'm not much help. But there are loads of resources out there on both gratitude and resilience.

Yes, it's frightening but totally something I really think I'll enjoy doing. I'm almost done with school so fingers crossed!

Thank you for sharing about your son. I'm happy that you have each other. ❣️

The thread just came to mind again.

The power of gratitude (as nicely mentioned in this thread), this is one I really enjoy and try to listen to frequently.

The content is uplifting to me. Maybe others may like it too!
