Gift for birthday?

I've recently become friends with someone (she's female, I'm male) and we've gotten closer the past few weeks. We exchange funny memes, check up on each other about events in our lives, invite each other to events but definitely don't text every day or anything like that. Her birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and she invited me to a small get together with mutual friends. I was thinking of getting her gift of something she's told me she really likes; it would kind of be a gag gift, and would cost about $15 at most.

I won't lie, I've developed a slight crush on her, but I also don't want to be creepy or make her uncomfortable or something. Is getting her a small gift appropriate?

What's the gag gift?

I guess it's not really a gag gift per se. She's really in to a series of movies, like rewatches them regularly, so we always kind of banter and joke back and forth about them. She was disappointed recently because they were taken off of her streaming site so she has no way of watching them now. I was going to get her the box set of the movies for cheap on Amazon

That is actually a lot more thoughtful than you initially let on. I think it's a nice idea.

My thoughts are not to show up empty handed to any gatherings so even if you decide not to give her this gift in particular, have something small with you and bring food.
