Do People Get More Emotional as They Age?

Recommended Posts

I had this question in my head for a couple of days.

It seems people get more emotional about things as they get older.

Anyone think with age comes a higher appreciation of life, therefore, causing people to become more emotional with everyday situations?

How old are you?

I find as I've gotten older, certain things become more sentimental to me, I cry easier than I used to. At 34 years old I feel I do appreciate things alot more than when I was younger. My father's death affected me so I tend to hang on to those closest to me and truely value my friends and family.

Well for me I would have to say yes. I have found that I have become more emotional over the years especailly since I had kids. Not sure if it was just due to hormonal changes or what. I have always been tender hearted anyway so it doesn't take alot for me to get upset/emotional about something, but yes I think the older I have gotten the more I tend to be more emotional.

I'm tender hearted always have and guess always will be.. It doesn't take alot to hurt my feelings and my daughter is the same way.. I couldn't even pull my daughters first tooth because she was saying it hurt and it was like it hurt me so i stopped and h got it out after i loosen it ... I couldn't watch them give her shots when she would go for her shots and it would make me cry when i had to hold her down!! I really hated that ..

46 here - less emotional in my case. Not everything is the end of the world (I used to be quite the drama queen) - I know that 'this too shall pass'.

Funny how you talk about having kids making you more emotional, I became less emotional with kids - I don't want them to see me fall apart, someone has to be strong.

It's not to say that I am hardened or cynical, just not as quick to cry or anger.

I would have to say yes.

My mom easily gets all emotional if she feels unappreciated, always looking to vent somewhere. she's mid 40's. My dad is angry about life in general too, probably the fact that all he's been doing is working all the time.

I think the problem is as people age, they miss the freedom of their youth...energetic, no worries, healthy. This is because of all the responsibilities and health problems that arises as they age and settle down (starting a family). Most peopple go through life without fully finding themselves and most to this day still dont even know who they are. And as a result, they feel trapped by society, unfulfilled and stuck in a daily routine...as well as angry and unloved (unappreciated) because of their sacrifices....heey? who doesnt want to be rewarded for all their hard work?

It would explain why some elderly people are very bitter.
