During our meal she put her foot on my knee. Is that flirting?

How would you suggest proceeding? I've never gone out with someone who had so many family issues.

On the plus side she adores her grandparents and does have a lot of close friends.

Anything else I should ask or look for regarding her family?

When I talk to her she seems very friendly, happy, and has a lot of different interests.

Talking about/focuses on personal things that are negative right out of the gate, I call it a toxic type of intimacy where they are looking for sympathy, hoping you can relate, connect. It's not a healthy thing to do IMO.  If she keeps bring it up, don't spend time pondering, get out of there before the drama gets too big. But maybe she just wanted to get it out of the way, and not talk about it again. Only time will tell. Just keep a close eye on it is all/make mental note. Just me but if I was on a date I wouldn't bring up my crappy relationship with my mother. That would be the last thing I would want to talk about. I also find it a turn off when a guy talks about his crappy childhood...total buzzkill.
