Question about gifts for a friend

Hello,

I have some questions about gifts. My platonic friend means a lot to me. (Please read in the dating forum: "Losing my marbles..") I know that she has some feelings towards me. I also have feelings for her. However, we both accept that under the current circumstances we would be better off as "just friends".

Christmas is nearing, and I have been thinking about gifts for my family and friends. Well, I have given a lot of thought about getting my friend a journal and fountain pen. (She likes to write). She is in grad school and is going to go overseas next summer for about seven months. I thought that a journal and pen would be practical. Question: Is that to much of a sappy gift? -I must let you know that before we worked out our situation, I had given her a little memento from my childhood that meant a lot to me. I told her that the item was something special to me and that I wanted her to have it.

Is this an acceptable gift for a platonic friend?

I think that's an EXCELLENT gift choice ... this sounds cheesy, but it takes a lot of thought in finding a pen that fits someone's personality, that not only is practical but unusual. My coworker loves finding and getting fountain pens/writing tools of that quality. And a journal is manna to someone who enjoys writing, because they see it as much more than a book with blank pages.

:) I'll find nice ones for myself, then just stash them aside because I don't want to mar the pages with any writing!!!!
