Tangerina
Hi, I am 20 years old and 5'2" and 130 lbs.... I generally like my body and self and size but I think I would like to trim down a bit more to the 120 range so as to be right in the middle of my healthy weight range rather than the top. I like being curvy, but want to get rid of all the extra hanging around... So I have been eating between 1200 and 1600 calories per day and I exercise a lot and do toning and weight training.... the exercise isn't something that I just started, I am very active in general, though have been slacking a bit during midterms... I don't want the diest to ruin my fun, so I am sticking to it best I can but if I go away with friends for the weekend I forget about it because I would rather not be stressed about it. Haven't had a chance to weigh myself yet cuz I don't have a scale, but after 3 weeks I don't feel much smaller but I do feel just a little less extra in some spots... so I think it is working slowly but surely... maybe 2-3 lbs... Anyways, I was just curious what everyone's personal best weight loss tips are... what I am doing works pretty well for me though it is very gradual, I just don't want to obsess about it with everything else I have to worry about, but what do all of you do to lose a few extra lbs? Any tips for speeding up the process without wierd gimmicks?
slubberdegullion
Eat less. Exercise more. It sounds simple, because it is, but that doesn't make it easy. It cannot be rushed.
JS17
I'm around the same size as you Tangerina and have struggled with my weight my whole life...I have thyroid disease though and it has a big part to do with the control I have over my weight. What helped me the most was high intensity light weight classes. I found I could do cardio for 2 hours a day and still lose nothing. These classes were the only thing that helped me shape my body to the way that I wanted it to be. I find that if I do it 3 times a week plus cardio on the off days I can get to where I want to be. tanbark813
At least you're being smart about it and not buying into any stupid gimmicks. Slow and steady is the best way to go. One commonly overlooked thing is to drink lots of water. Drink at least half a gallon a day. A full gallon per day is even better. A lot, if not all, of the metabolic processes that go on in your body require water. A lack of water means your body can't operate as efficiently as it would otherwise. JS17
Very good point tanbark. Also, ice water will help you burn faster than warm/room temperature water. Your body needs to burn calories to keep you warm when ingesting cold liquids.

When I saw you post I thought for sure you were going to say something like have lots and lots of sex with your boyfriend to burn calories. *I've read that sex doesn't burn that many calories...don't know if there's truth behind it. Sorry a little tired today so not on my normal sexual assualt. Sex can burn as many calories as many other excercises but just like other exercises you have to do it for more than 5 minutes and you have to move your ass and not lay there like a limp noodle. JS17
I just used slubber's calculator...for someone my size for an hour of vigorous sex I would burn about 90 calories. I know when I go on the cross trainer at the gym it's about 500 calories per hour.
slubberdegullion
Yea, but sex is so much more fun. How about sex on the cross trainer?
JS17
How about sex on the cross trainer? Sadly enough, I was just sitting at my desk trying to figure out if that was possible. I think it would be really dangerous *kids, do not try this at home*
TUDOR
With my wife's busy schedule I am still trying to sell sex to her as a means of working in some exercise so please cease and desist all this talk of sex not being a good calorie burner.
Outcast
Don't focus on weight because muscle is more dense so you may have lost inches and fat but weigh pretty much the same as you used to. I base my weight on how my clothes fit rather than on what the scales say.
Leahh
do not weigh yourself every day
smile95
1600 calories is a little much I think. Watch your portion and fried foods, easy on heavy carbs and drink lots of water. Never go below 1200 calories though.
Author Tangerina
yah, 1600 is mostly on days when I burn 400-600 cals in exercise (I have a polar HRM that tells me exactly how much) but yeah, I try to stay around 1400....
smile95
oh on days you wrk out....I missed that part....then keep up the good work! Sounds like you are doing things right!

sophia34
My best weight loss weapon has been green tea--and lots of it. I drink a glass of iced green tea first thing in the morning before breakfast, a glass with almost every meal, and one or two glasses in between meals. (up to five a day). It has been phenomenal in suppressing my appetite. I'm simply not as hungry. I know that it works (for me, anyway) because every once in a while I have gotten lazy about brewing the tea (it only takes about 10 minutes, but still, sometimes one just gets busy). Instead, I'd just drink water for a couple of days--same timing, same number of glasses All of a sudden, I feel ravenous and I can't stop eating. This has happened a few times, and I spent a day or two wondering what on earth was making me so hungry and tired? Then, I realized that I hadn't had a glass of green tea in two or three days. It's happened so often that I now see the cause-and-effect. I don't know if it's the caffeine or other components in the tea, but I now never allow a day to go by without a pitcher of green tea in the fridge. It's just been a lifesaver (or in this case, a weight loser) for me.
scobro
The best weight loss advice is clean up your diet with higher protein and fibrous carbs(vegetables)and good fat at each meal.Try and eat every 3 hours smaller portion of higher protein and fibrous carbs plus fat eg chicken breast and a salad(no dressing-) sponful of flaxseed oil.You also don't want to go too long without any starchy carbs so slowly after 4 days for the next three at 2 of the 5 or 6 meals have higher protein and starchy carb eg6 egg whites and 1/2 cup of oatmeal or whole grain toast.once you get the eating down you want to do your cardio when you are going to burn fat not carbs so essentially using fat as fuel the only time this will happen is first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or right after you weight train. You could for more fat burn also do it 3 hours after your last meal at night as well. The whole point to this is the body uses stored carbs as energy first this is called glycogen(stored carbohydrates)once glycogen levels are low the body switches to stored fat as fuel so this is when you want to be doing cardio
I Luv the Chariot OH
A lot of people assume that not eating meat will cause you to lose lots of weight, but the largest source of daily fat we intake (pretty much double that of meat) is dairy products. It accounts for close to 50% of fat in our diets. It's a huge lifestyle change, but I've never met or heard of a fat vegan in my life. I mean, it's pretty much impossible to be fat if you're cutting off more than half your fat intake.
Author Tangerina
Hmmm.... I have been vegetarian since I was 8... woah, so like 12 years! and I don't eat many dairy products, but I haven't cut them out altogether... I do eat many eggs though.... not an unhealthy amount, I just appreciate the delicious high quality protein!!! I have been veggie for so long that I don't really know if my body would be different if I ate more dairy and meat..... but that is a really good point... Haha, my room mate went on a raw food diet, however, and she is kind of a compulsive eater to start with... well, most people lose a ton of weight like that (she was doing it for health, not weight loss, but still) well, she didn't lose an ounce because she was constantly eating peanut butter and just eating honey out of the container and making marzipan out of almonds and honey and eating just TONS of it.... so she just shifted her compulsive eating to healthier high fat high sugar foods.... Author Tangerina
YAY!!! It is working!!!! I have been doing it for almost 4 weeks but today I was back at my parent's house so it was my first chance to weigh myself since I don't have a scale (I always do it in the morning with no clothes before consuming, it helps make steady conditions so I can actually compare) and I have lost 3-4 lbs, which is great... I was aiming for about 1 a week since I didn't want to get too obsessive about it.... I am down to the low side of 127 instead of the high side of 130.... of course that isn't much and you can't see it much on my body except that I can feel my ribs more, but it means that it is working... I am aiming for 120.... when I get there my prize is to blow money on Chantal Thomass lingerie... I have never been the sort to fall for the gimmick of designer clothing, but this stuff is so nice that I can't resist..... Yay, it works!!!
