Something we can work on together. If you do stay together, my suggestion would be that you share an account related to the running of the home you share. You both put money into the account for the mortgage, bills, taxes, food, etc… decide on a fair amount, and you use this money for your daily expenses. But then, you should both be able to have your own spending money - this could be private and you are not accountable to your partner for your own spending. This could be savings, vacation money, personal spending… Obviously, it would depend on your financial situation.. if every dollar counts, then you share everything and work together as a team to pay the bills. But, if you both have some disposable income, my opinion is that you should both have some freedom to save and to spend assuming that you are both responsible adults.
