Share something about yourself. look for clues they are interested in you. for instance, if you are in a book store, ask them about the book they are looking at. Tell them what kind of books you like....see if she keeps the conversation going. see if she looks at you or looks for the nearest exit. if you are interested in something, find girls who are interested in the same thing. i met my last boyfriend in yoga class. good luck. fake the confidence and you will soon feel more confident! girls love a confident guy. believe in what you say and say it with passion. you are worth getting to know.

I remember being that shy some time ago and not knowing how to start a conversation. I wish you were around to advise me when I was a kid!
