I've had 3 bouts now of ovarian cysts and today I got my results back from my DR (Ultrasound and blood work) all is OK, the cyst burst, the ultrasound showed tenderness and swelling due to it bursting, but it is gone.

She suggested to me Depo Provera shots to prevent more cysts from forming.

I am wondering has anyone taken Depo Provera and if so how are you on it? Side effects, good and bad reactions etc...

I'm not too sure if I want to be on it, it's all progesterone, no estrogen, which is good as the estrogen seems to give me nasty migraines and I cannot be the Pill anymore. Downside of getting a Depo Provera shot is it causes loss of bone density and risk of osteoporosis. I'm petite build and 34 years old, I don't drink milk (I take supplements and eat alot of yoghurt though) and osteoporosis does run on my father's side of the family...My grandmother had it, (I am built like her too so that kinda worries me) and so did one of my Aunts.

I've done some reading up on it and already I'm not too sure I want to take this drug.

Sooooo, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I'm a little late on commenting, but i thought it was really important for you to hear. i went on the depo shot 6 months ago, and ya, it was very effective in pregnancy prevention, but the side effects were awful. i would have my period for a month straight. and also, i gained 20 pounds. so if you're really serious about it, prepare yourself to gain weight.

Confused, I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. That's awful.

JeT'Aime, I've read up alot of this shot, talked to some more of my friends and I have NO intention of taking it. I can deal with the pain of the cysts if it's afew times a year.

Thanks for replying to my post.
