guys who smoke?

Recommended Posts

My BF smokes.... I have to say he does look cool smoking, just cuz it kinda lends to the bad boy thing he has going on, but geez, his nicotine addiction really worries and disgusts me, especially since he chews tobacco sometimes to save his lungs for exercising, and that disgusts me even more because it is making him more addicted and he has the sweetest cutest teeth I have ever seen, I don't even know how to explain how someone has attractive teeth, but he does and I don't want them to get ruined! Not to mention CARCINOGENS! He doesn't have a very severe addiction, I have seen him go days without tobacco, but his average is probably 1-3 cigs a day and on one occasion when I had a party and most of the guests smoked and drinking was involved he sat out on my porch with friends and must have smoked like 10, but that is very rare.... I have expressed my concern for his health to him, but I also don't feel that it is my place to change him after only dating 5 months... if we were getting married or something I would feel ok pressuring him to stop because then I would need him to not die before me, but at this point it is his thing. Besides, he isn't going to stop until he makes the decision for himself. But he knows how I feel about it and appreciates that I care for his health and knows that I will support him 100% if he does decide to quit.

I believe its down right disgusting and a really bad turn off.

Hence, #2. Not Cool at all

Not only does it steal your youth and health ...but also your money!

Also goes for marijuana, its not any different.

Plus, second hand-smoking is a lot worse than smoking itself.

Gosh, does anyone really think smoking is 'cool' these days?

My BF smokes and I wish he didn't.

His breath smells really bad a lot of the time. It gets on his clothes and stinks up the car.

It's also expensive -- it costs him like $25/week for his habit. That's a $1200 a year for a smelly, gross habit that's going to shorten his life if he doesn't quit.

Smoking is about as cool as picking your ass in public.

Woah, at least my BF is not smelly all of the time and spending tons on it... I would say he has a mild-to-moderate habit... As I said before, I don't think it is my place to change him at this point unless it is becoming a real problem... and spending money and being smelly or ruining his lovely teeth would be a big problem and then I would make it my business....

Top reasons to quit smoking:

Erectile Disfunction!!!

Lowered fertility

Emphysema-I know an old lady who has this and her wheezing and coughing is just horrible and gross

Cancer...

Being Smelly!

turning your beautiful mouth and teeth all gross...

Hmm...

Also goes for marijuana, its not any different.

this is coming from someone who uses weed maybe 0-3 times a month, closer to 0, so I am not like a pro-weed activist or pothead and I don't even like it that much.... but I really don't think it is as bad at moderate levels because it doesn't have anywhere near the toxicity of those nasty cigs and it isn't chemically addictive... hell, if my BF replaced his tobacco habit with a bit more weed or something I would be pretty happy cuz at least he wouldn't be killing himself, maybe just a few braincells.... if he became a pothead, that would be a total turnoff... but as it is his weed use is about the equivalent of my dad coming home from work and having a beer or two throughout the evening.... Plus weed actually smells nice (unburned tobacco smells great, but cig smoke is barf-tastic)... even when I didn't smoke it at all I enjoyed the smell when my room mates would do it in the other room.....

If you don't mind memory impairment and impotence

HAHA, I am not saying it is GOOD, but more... um... lesser of two evils.... plus light-moderate use doesn't usually cause those problems.... even light use of cigs causes ADDICTION TO POISON AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:sick:

I can't really pick just one.

I don't mind a light to social smoker. I'm a weekend binge smoker. I don't smoke during the week. I enjoy a pack on the weekends when bored or have a few drinks or partying with friends.

Now my X was/is a heavy smoker and it makes him really stink. He has bad hygiene to begin with so that doesnt help. I prefer a man who is a very light smoker or doesnt smoke but is tolerant of a light smoker (social smoker-like when drinking.)

Im always chewing gum, mints, brushing my teeth, washing my hands and using lotion and body spray when I smoke. I enjoy a smoke but not the smell..

haha :D , i always thought i looked cool while smoking, but i wasnt sure what girls thought about it.

i guess im just weird, but i think the taste/smell of smoking is freaking delicious, and the same, to a lesser extent, for the umm..."aftersmell" on your hands and clothes. But i know my family doesnt appreciate it so i chew gum and wash my hands and face after.

After having my father die at 50 of lung cancer from smoking and my step mother die of lung cancer at 59 from smoking I have learned that there is nothing cool about dying early in life....

The rules are " you smoke you die.. or you die of something smoking related "

So to answer your question.. I don't find smoking cool.. A turn off yes..

what do the ladies here think of guys who smoke?

1. Cool

2. Not cool

3. Doesnt matter

Maybe you should change the question to:

What do the ladies here think of guys with cancer?

No, but for real, realizing someone smokes reveals a lot about someone's personality. It means 1. they will conform and fold under peer pressure easily, or 2. they will do whatever they think will make them look cool, or 3. they have no self discipline to control their actions or overcome a stupid addiciton.

A lot of people will complain saying that they are hugely addicted and can't kick it. I'm sorry, but you can, it's a matter of will power, and the ones who can't kick it are weak, not because it's too hard. My grandpa found out his wife had cancer and he had been smoking for 30 years........he quit on the spot. He's one of the toughest guys I knew, but he ended up dying of lung cancer at some point anyway.

If you smoke, then I pretty much lose a large portion of respect for you.

1. they will conform and fold under peer pressure easily,

I smoke and to be a smoker now-a-days one must be quite tough and hardened. Smoke is much less accepted today than it was 40 yrs ago. Anyone who still smokes must have balls.

or 2. they will do whatever they think will make them look cool,

what about people that buy nice clothes or buy BMWs or drink the latest fashionalbe drink (red bull?) or go to the trendiest restaruant to be "cool"???

or 3. they have no self discipline to control their actions or overcome a stupid addiciton.

studies show that nicotine is as addicting or more addicting than Heroin. Why is tobacco legal then? Blame it on the govt. And i don't hear anyone ever complaining about all the taxes that smokers generate whilst killing themselves.

If you smoke, then I pretty much lose a large portion of respect for you.

oh OK, then you must have little respect for the grossly obese and for all people addicted to other substances, legal or illegal. They are all "weak"

To me, being *cool* isn't *cool*. Society's definition of what's *cool* is highly questionable at best. :)

And smoking is breathtakingly (no pun intended) stupid. Nothing *cool* about it whatsoever... unless you wanna talk about how *cool* your body becomes after a hideous death of lung cancer... *cool* from rigor mortis.

I watched one of my grandparents die in her hospital bed from lung cancer resulting from years of smoking and it was the most horrifying thing I ever witnessed.

everyone has to die of something S.F. and many of the manners of death are not pleasant. My ma never drank, never smoked, was skinny as a rail and lived a very clean life. She died of massive cancer at age 58. 10% of lung cancer patients never smoked a day in their life. You can be hit by a car or be shot seven times in the head by a relative or lover. There are no guarantees.

Do something good S.F. and write letter to the american fast food companies, tobacco companies, alcohol companies and tell them how bad their products are and that they are killing counteless americans (and non-americans) every day.

And while your at it S.F. why not write a few letters to hollywood movie and TV companies ant tell them how they are f***ing up society.

I don't need to write any letters to anyone but thanks for the tip. :)

I think that people are intelligent enough to make their own decisions (good or bad) about smoking, eating, drinking, etc. There is enough information available on the pros/cons of doing whatever - all people have to do is look for it and read it.

Your mother may have indeed lived a very *clean* life however even that is no guarantee from contracting cancer. Air pollution, close proximity to certain forms of EM radiation, and radon gas are other possible factors.

My point is why KNOWINGLY do something that is detrimental to one's health in spite of all the readily available information demonstrating said detriments?

well lets see S.F., people KNOWINGLY do stupids things that harm them everyday. Lets list some:

- involved in abusive relationships

- driving 95 mph in rush hour traffic

- robbing banks and shoooting up high schools

- molesting and killing 10 yr old kids

- drinking to excess

- eating to excess

- doing drugs, both illicit and legal

- having unprotected sex with high-risk partners

- not following their doctor's advice about their health

etc...and the list goes on and on....why must we single out smokers?

I can't speak for *everyone* but I *single out* stupidity wherever I see it. Smoking is just one thing... all of those things on your list are fair game as well as many others.
