A chorus-line of jumping bunnies. Bet that drives the sheepdog mad! :)

Seriously: wit, intelligence, kindness, respect (which includes respect for oneself indicated by good grooming and lack of obesity). These are what women want, I think. More can chime in here.

I don't like humor that is self-aggrandizing (Present bunnies excluded) or puts another down. This says the person is too full of him-/herself to be oriented toward another.

Yes, thats a NO COOL flag for me too, anyone who thinks its funny to put some one else down, is a turn off.

Hey, I always notice this statement from women`s personals on dating websites. Must be a gazillion women make this statement

 Well sorry to be cliche :p

Put it this way, if I sat down on top of a whoopee cushion then turned round to see Brad Pitt crying with laughter, I might not feel overly envious of Angeline Jolie.

:lmao: Agreed

Forget the Stooges. Give me Monty Python any day. I mean, 'fess up now ladies, who really wants to do Larry, Moe, Curley, or Shep? I didn't think so
.

I swear when Cleese started with the Russian in Fish I nearly leapt on my TV

Well now wouldn't it make sense that slapstick appeals more to men who are more visual and wordplay to women, who are more verbal? Must we make this a 'my way's better' rant yet again?

Couldn't agree more! Though childish humour and slapstick can be funny if you're in the mood for it, and the expressions on Tom's face in Tom and Jerry used to always make me laugh. On the other hand, if that was the only type of humour a man had I'd soon get bored. It's fine for a bit of stupid banter when you're mucking around - but I can't imagine wanting to spend too much of my free time with a man whose idea of entertainment was entirely restricted to putting a hand under his armpit, pumping his arm and making farting noises.

I don't think there are particular divisions between men and women when it comes to humour. Alpha, you say women have no sense of humour. Over here in the UK, I don't remember hearing men saying much about women lacking humour....but there's a very popular belief that people in the US lack humour because they don't get irony.

Whenever I've read or heard that particular myth, the accuser has generally been male. I'm presuming that you agree with it?

So Bart Simpson is out for you then?

Male vs Female humour, maybe another thread in that one, but I generally find there is little difference. Although I do recall one person telling me that nothing was funny, I am serious, it was a woman, but a very unfeminine woman, she thought Tommy Cooper was boring and didn't understand Monty Python, didn't like jokes or wordplay, nothing, nada, zip, zilch. I found her vaguely disturbing.

USA vs UK, My favourite living comedian is from the US, a certain Steven Wright, he is hysterical.

I must say Lindya, that although I do not agree with alpha's assertion, I have found more women than men a little unsure when it comes to dealing with my sense of humour, as though they are not quite getting it. Fewer women I have met are into the same kind of humour as me, and although I am a male and they have been female I cannot really make any assumptions at a population level as the sample size is not significant in statistical terms. One must maintain a scientific posture when dealing with this kind of qualitative variable.

I do...women need humour that is more cerebral in which they have to think about it and then decide it is funny after which the brain sends a message to the mouth to laugh. Men just think that hitting someone over the head with a hammer is funny. But men do understand the cerebral humour also. Ergo, men are more funny because they can understand low-brow and high-brow humour. Women only understand high-brow.

I was born in London, LINDYA so I dig what you are saying. US and English humour is quite different. The english like more irony and smart humour which is more subtle. Americans don't enjoy this style in general but a few do (the intelligent american mainly).

my own observations have shown me that many women in general don't appreciate humour as much as men do.

People with some disorders, Asperger's in particular, have a lot of trouble with humour because they are literal thinkers and much of humour depends on not taking things literally.

Did you know Dan Akroyd (sp?) has Aspergers? Can't survive without police paraphenalia of some sort. For some reason, I think this is funny.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Yeah, I know, I'm sick that way. Which is also why I like Bart Simpson.

And why if this is the emoticon symbol for lmao there's no a to laugh off?

I'd think s/he (do smileys have gender?) would have laughed it off except that her/his fellow compatriots in the emoticon world have none either. I guess if you don't have an ass you really don't have gender either. Now there's a syndrome for you!

so you are saying that many females have asparagus syndrome? isn't there some medication for that?

i don't need to commission a $7.25 million study to figure out that dogs like to eat pooh and that very attractive women go after rich men. i can see it and hear it myself in the real world.

Dark haired guys.....and a sense of humor is very important. I love to laugh!! I like all kinds of humor, funny, sweet, cynical, dry...someone who's really funny will mix the different types of humor up to fit the mood!!! I'm drawn to anyone, even women who are funny.

I think I can be pretty funny myself! Well, people laugh in my presence sometimes...I like to think they're laughing cause I said something funny....
