hotgurl
how do you guys shake of the blues? Lately I have been feeling blah and unmotivated. In the last two years I have beeen really sick anmd suffered depression as a result. I have been slowly getting better but can't shake the blah feeling. I used to have so much energy and do all kinds of things but lately I haven't been feeling like it. Christmas has perked me up a little. Any tips or advice. Plus tips for exercise would help not it has been 10 below outside so walking is out and I don't have any $$ for a gym. I have tapes but again can't seem to get motivated to do them. thanks
whichwayisup
Get a friend to come over, or a neighbour...Do yoga together. That is what I do as I am lazy too! Make sure you get out to walk, even if it's around the block! That small amount will give you some energy and make you feel better. Some times I don't want to go out and walk, my hubby makes me!! But once I'm out there, I do feel so much better and energized. This time of year is rough, so don't beat up on yourself too much, it's hibernation time, so enjoy the time inside. DO some fun projects around the house, do baking, cooking, reorganize your closets or pick up a fun hobby to do. It's so easy to fall into boring routines, watching TV, playing on the computer, being on LS (hehehe!), and so on... Pamper yourself! Very important! Get into the habit of taking a bath in the evening. Put on music and relax. Light some candles etc... The other thing, start a journal of your thoughts. Get out all the yuk and blah feelings you feel. It does help getting that out. Talk to your DR about B12 shots. They DO affect mood, energy and attitude. I've been taking B12 shots for about 10 months now and it really has helped. (My B12 levels were really low at one point.) Hope this helps!
Author hotgurl
Do you know if certain meds can leach your b12. I hate how it gets dark at 4pm now. we are closing on our house 12/27 and I am half thinking of not transfering our cable. All we do it watch tv I hate it soo much or I want to put the tv in a seperate room. I really want to paint again as well. Maybe moving will give me progects to do and help shake the blah. Your right about walking I wish I could get myy BF to do it with me it would help to all three of us go for a walk after dinner.
whichwayisup
I'm not sure about that, but ask your doctor. As far as I know, this time of year depleets us ALL of certain vitamins and minerals, so it's a good idea to get a multivitamin and drink alot of water. My favourite thing right now are those little clementines. Can eat TONS of them and they're so good for you! Yup, get out there, even if you don't feel like it! Have you considered looking into buying a S.A.D light? They do work and with the light getting so dark early it does affect us! I'm fine now, I did suffer from S.A.D recently, mine usually hits end of September and lasts a good 3 weeks or so. November isn't usually too bad, it's a busier month in general for me. Even sitting outside for 20 mins atleast can help. Even if it is cloudy outside, you're still getting enough light to make a difference. You seem like me, abit of a procrastinator! Though with me, once I get going on something I stick to it. It's just getting started is my problem.
Alwaysunsure
Hey Hotgurl. Sorry you're feeling blah. Having the blues is lousy. I know how you feel though, because I suffer the same. It's not really something that just goes away. You mentioned that Christmas has perked you up a little bit. Maybe you should decorate and listen to some Christmas music, send out cards to your friends and family. This sounds really cliche, but seriously, doing volunteer work lifts your spirits. For some reason I always feel good when I help other people. But, that will take a little motivation :/ As for excercise...hmmm. We're from the same area, so I know what you mean about walking in freezing weather. Love the sleet we had this morning too. I dont know how old you are, but if you like to go to clubs, dancing is good excercise, and it will probably perk you up. That's all I got. Best of Luck, smile
seachange
WWIU, have you tried taking B12 in pill form too? I'm curious to know whether it's equally effective as shots. I've been fighting off depression too, but don't really have the $$ at the moment to go to therapy/doctor consistently. So I've been looking into dietary-type stuff to help; I recently started taking 5-HTP, which is a "natural" antidepressant (it increases serotonin uptake, also helps you sleep). But I think the dosage is mild relative to prescription antidepressants, so I've been looking into alternative/additional methods that you can incorporate into your diet (B12, omega-3 fatty acids, etc.)

Best of Luck, smile thanks, I know about the sleet I almost couldn't make it to work today. I planned on having a cookie baking get together to perk me up. Also I am going back to school for teaching because I really do like to help people and am sick of being in front of the computer. It is just bad the week because I have been in pain for the last week and a half.

It affected me SO much! I always felt tired, no energy, my mood was low and felt ill alot. Which ofcourse, set off my anxiety. It felt like a constant low blood sugar level, that awful yuk feeling...By taking the B12 shots, it brought my levels up to where they should be and I DO feel SO much better. More energy, I don't feel that yuk feeling anymore. The pills are OK to take. Maybe get a full physical done, get them to do a full workup on your blood. Find out if you need the shots. seachange
Wow, I have to say, that sounds really great! What you described is exactly how I've been feeling for months now, and I'm kind of at my wits' end about it... Maybe I'll convince the family to pay for shots for Xmas. I'd so much rather have that than more bath products I don't need.

Outcast
Depression, low thyroid, lots of things can have similar symptoms to B12 deficiency. Nobody should dose themselves with B12 unless they know for sure they suffer a deficiency. Depression responds to exercise, to sleep and healthy food, to fresh air, to all the practices of health but if you can't pull yourself up, it's time to see the doc for a full physical to see if something physical isthe issue. Becoming
Hotgurl, you mentioned pain. Pain can be a cause of depression. I live in chronic pain and fight the blahs as well. Lots of same symptoms. Omega 3 oil helps--4/day. 5-HRT seems to help, too.

Becoming
yeah I have chronic severe migraines. Sometimes I have to stay in bed, sometimes it comes with such severe dizziness I can't walk withou help. Been there! Whiplash injury left me with a migraine for 1/2 year no relief. I see a chiropractor regularly. That helps, even with dizziness. Have you tried that? Most health insurance covers it now.
Author hotgurl
no I am afraid of chiropractors. Also I think my Insurance doesn't cover it. I have crappy insurance
Becoming
no I am afraid of chiropractors. Also I think my Insurance doesn't cover it. I have crappy insurance I understand the justifiable fear of chiropractors. You don't want just anyone working on your head, but I know lots of people who've found relief from migraines that way. Worth a try with a referral from someone who knows a good one. If he went to Palmer Chiropractic School, they're very well-trained. There are others, but Palmer's good. My 13-year-old daughter had migraines so bad she was missing school once a week for awhile. I took her to my chiropractor, who usually doesn't work on children (she was 10 at the time), and within 2 visits I had my daughter back. And this was after all the meds they'd put her on that hadn't completely taken care of the problem. But, you're right, they don't work for everyone. Hope you find something, though. It sucks to have headaches, and no one who doesn't can really understand what it's like.
whichwayisup
Get some blood work done, and those results will tell if you need B12 shots, or even Iron shots.
