MH66
Yesterday an Australian judge sentenced a rapist, who had raped eleven known victims, over the course of seven years, to a total of 12 months jail. I can't speak for the pecking order amongst inmates in Australia, but here in the states, rapists rank pretty low on the totem poll. And child molesters are lower still. I'll bet he'll be someone's "girlfriend" in no time and still have another 11 months and 29 days of sheer bliss. By the way, Oklahoma lawmakers made rape a capital offense (punishable by death). But the state supreme court ruled it as unconstitutional.
RecordProducer
I think it's picking nits to worry about the 'legal' definition of rape vs sexual assault. In neither case is a sentence of one month per instance acceptable when the acts were foisted on young people.Exactly! rapists rank pretty low on the totem poll. And child molesters are lower still. I'll bet he'll be someone's "girlfriend" in no time and still have another 11 months and 29 days of sheer bliss I heard that too and it's good to know it. In any case, he gets punishment for what HE started and those poor children didn't deserve the pain. In my opinion, the punishment should hurt MUCH MORE than the crime, because the victim didn't choose to be a victim and the criminal gets what he deserves; his life is not as worthwhile as those of the true model citizens' lives. Author sparticuss
If you want people to comment on a newspaper item, it would be helpful to provide links and/or salient background details rather than just presenting the more controversial aspects to the story in hazy detail. The controversial aspects of the rapes were deliberiately presented in hazy detail to see the reaction. There are so many double standards being applied to the old R word that its always interesting to see the reaction when the victims are male. I may be a "wierdo" but thank christ I'm not a sheep. I do think outside the circle.

I do think outside the circle. the victims in this case were male children, not men. it's not a good way to gauge a reaction when the situations are quite different...even though rape is always wrong. don't come here to play mindgames, it's just annoying.
