michellebelle
There is the scripture that tells women to be silent in the churches.I dont know of too many women who havent heard it at some point in their lives. This one single SERIOUS misenterpretation of scripture has destroyed more people, more lives and driven women away from churches. When you look at surrounding scripture its easy to see that Paul was speaking to a specific group of people.Back then women were either uneducated or were prostitutes, obviously unfit to be leaders in churches. {There is a scripture reference where paul actually visits a married couple who are pastors of a church and praises them.} It is because of this scripture and the fall in the garden of Eden that many churches have told women that they have little value in Gods eyes.THIS IS A LIE OF SATAN HIMSELF.When you actually study the bible it is clear that this is untrue. Its very sad that churches have driven away so many people over this. The bible says that man was created out of the DUST of the earth.God saw that Adam needed a mate so he FASHIONED Eve from FLESH,meaning he took his time and put alot of effort into her creation. That flesh was taken from a rib bone, symbolising PATNERSHIP,side by side.Eve was not taken from a foot bone to be stepped on and held in lower position. There are many great women in the bible who were sent by God himself to lead entire nations.Esther,Debborah,Mary, just to name a few.The bible says that in Gods eyes there is neither greek nor jew nor male nor female ALL are EQUAL in the eyes of God.There is a book that I highly reccomend called "Women,Gods secret weapon".Satan knows the value that women have in Gods eyes,he knows how powerfull we can be,so he has used religios zealots to keep us down.Any women who is in one of these churches, generally denominational, you should get out and find a non-denominational church with women pastors. LifeRealistic
Yeah this has always been a topic for debate. I remember the first time I read that passage in the bible, I was like wooo, I shouldn't even do a reading then in the church...? But then I thought about the lectors that read passages. It’s a difficult debate because it is almost like Christianity at times, has come up with a certain theory that picks and chooses which things of the Old Testament it will keep, and which ones Christ freed us from. You have a very valid argument.

Becoming
Christianity at times, has come up with a certain theory that picks and chooses which things of the Old Testament it will keep, and which ones Christ freed us from. You're right. Our understandings of who God is and how we live in accord with God's Way grow over time. This doesn't mean God necessarily changes or that the Bible is wrong; it just means Christianity gets more enlightened in some ways (and often stupider in others, unfortunately). This is why we need each each other in community to interpret the Bible.
