Lonestar
My name is Lonestar, and I am a nicotine addict. I have stopped nicotine for 4 days, 5 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds (4 days). I've not smoked 84 death sticks, and saved $21.11. I've saved 7 hours and 2 minutes of my life. That's from a quit counter I have on my computer.... Anyway, Sat morning I wake up and smoke a few cigs. Start gagging as usual and got so fed up that I took my pack, ripped it up, and flushed it. I was fine the first few days, but yesterday and today have been very hard. I'm doing this cold turkey. I don't want a cigarette, but I can feel the withdrawal symptoms and hear the junkie part of my mind trying to talk me into smoking again. I'm also very emotional today, and have broke out into tears 5 times. I really would like to hear from other people who have quit. Tell me how long it's been and how long it took you to start feeling better after quitting. Do you still miss smoking or are you thrilled that you managed to stop?

And you'll be so proud of yourself for undertaking this extremely difficult task and succeeding I was never a smoker but I've watched good friends go through it and admired them greatly because I understand that it's exceptionally hard. I almost can't wait to go to bed, but I'm determined to keep trying and hopefully I'll never pick up another nasty ass cigarette again. I've been a smoker for 25 years. Thanks for the support, lilmoma. I'll keep you all posted on how I'm doing. I've tried to quit about 5 times in the last 6 months, but never made it past 5 days because of stress. I think I have a good chance now since I erased the stress factor from my life . Tomorrow at 11:00 am EST is 5 days under my belt, rolling through the 6th!!!!
noclobber
My name is Lonestar, and I am a nicotine addict. I have stopped nicotine for 4 days, 5 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds (4 days). CONGRATS Lonestar!!! Way to go... wooo hooo I really would like to hear from other people who have quit. Tell me how long it's been and how long it took you to start feeling better after quitting. Do you still miss smoking or are you thrilled that you managed to stop? i was a smoker for 7 years (10 a day) and quit it cold turkey one night in 2001. the first 2 weeks were pure hell but i diverted my craving towards food and gained weight like crazy. i cud go on without cigarettes until Jan 2002 but i started smoking one cigarette a day from then on... i made one more attempt in June 2002 and this time i was successful now its been nearly 3 yrs since i quit smoking!! Good luck to you!! Quitting an addiction is the perfect way to ring in the new year! If u need any support PM me.
newbby
it takes about 2 weeks to get over the worst of it. after a few months you may notice you are calmer in general, yet more alert at the same time. clearer head, more energy, better skin! it is great, and i definetly dont miss feeling the way i felt as a smoker, it has been about 9 months for me. Author Lonestar
I have stopped nicotine for 7 days, 14 hours, 11 minutes and 29 seconds. I've not smoked 152 death sticks, and saved $37.97. I can't believe I've made it this far!!!!!!!!! :bunny: I spent three hours in a bar last night, but had to leave after my 3rd drink. If I stayed any longer, I would have smoked, so I hightailed my ass out of there and did some last minute Xmas shopping. It was a close call. Tonight I had dinner and drinks with family (some who smoke) and actually chatted with the smokers outside while I resisted joining in their addiction. 25 years of being a smoker, but I still pray I can beat this. johan
I think the coolest way to quit is to just do it. I know it's hard for you, but you're earning my respect. Good luck!

Fun2BMe
That is fabulous, one of the best success stories on LS. I agree the best way to stop is to just do it (mind you I have not been a smoker). From feedback I hear, trying the patch, or to lower the number of cigarettes gradually doesn't work as well as quitting cold turkey. I think the best way to quit is if you have made up your mind really otherwise you would not have been able to leave the bar or not lit up with your friends. So good job! and keep it up. Your skin will look healthier, your lungs even though you can't see them they won't be that black disgusting color we've all seen, you'll save money, you'll live longer without health complications associated to smoking such as early onset of heart disease, shortness of breath, bad stinky smoker's breath and cancer. (I know you know all this, but i want to chear you on!) Good job Lonestar! It's the best present you could give yourself.
