Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm due to have cognitive behavioural therapy soon after a long NHS wait in UK as i have a dependency behavioural disorder, i'm too clingy, can't find happiness myself & rely on others!

I hate myself how i am, i find myself & how i react to relationships totally different to the guys i know!, They sleep around, don't think anything of it, I DO!

When i fall, i fall deeeply & fast, i kind of need them & can't face rejection!

Any advice as to wether CBT works, please help! I take lexapro & valium.

Regards

Hey, man. Don't be so hard on yourself. Everything you do you do for a reason. Those reasons tend to be good ones, I find, although the behavior they cause isn't always what you want. So I feel for you when you say you "hate yourself" because all you really need to do is understand yourself. Then hopefully you'll love yourself. And the cognitive behavioral therapy is a great way to begin to understand yourself. But I think you can do your best work on your own. The therapy is hopefully just going to give you the tools you need. It's up to you to put them to work. Good luck.

CBT works! I've been doing CBT for a while now because I suffer from an anxiety disorder. The therapy will help you cope with your issues, face fears, past/present/future, most of all you'll learn how to live in the NOW and gain control back into your life, and to change your way of thinking, more positive and how to handle things easier too.

What you put into CBT is what you get out of it. It's alot of hard work but the big payout at the end is HUGE! It's definately worth it.

I think CGT is about freeing yourself from a mindset that's placing serious restrictions on the way you live your life. A tendency towards self-loathing and negative thinking patterns is particularly restrictive. No therapist could help you if that therapist took a very hostile and judgemental approach towards you.

For you to work effectively with the therapist, you'll somehow need to develop more empathy for the person you've been up to now. Realise that there are reasons for you thinking and behaving the way you do...but also realise that (with the help and guidance of your therapist) you will have to take personal responsibility for altering that mindset.

I think that when a person is very needy towards others, in some ways they're hoping that those others will make them feel better by altering external circumstances for them. Make them feel loved, wanted, nurtured etc. This does, of course, push other people away as they feel faced with a task in which the ultimate rewards are unclear...and the penalty for failure could involve them feeling that they've let the needy person down and caused a further deterioration in their poor self image.

I'm glad you're getting the help you need, and hope that things get much better for you in the new year.

I know my future ha to be from within myself & i can't rely on others, i've just suffered so much heartbreak because in the past i'v been so needy & when i fall in love, it's deep!

I need to know why my mind works as it does & how to handle situations like relatiionship seperation & turmoil in life.

Is it bad to make the person you like feel good & loved, a fine line i guess! I admit i do feel a lot for this girl,as we have so much in common, so, so much, i just want her & feel i can't do enough, stupid i know!

Time will tell!
