Short term depression and stress/anxiety

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a long history of stress/anxiety and depression, and have been through years of therapy/medication/etc. for it.

Unfortunately, I am coming up to a very stressful/depressing stretch in my life over the next 6 months (losing/changing job, probably being forced to move/buy a house, mother needing to come live with me, daily child-raising, etc. etc. etc.) and I think I need a little extra help (besides my usual meditation, exercise, natural sedatives, etc.) to get me through it.

Can anyone recommend a good short-term anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medicine that will take the edge off enough for me to survive the next 6 months and not leave any side effects?

Thanks :)

Try your best to eliminate other stresses...Take good care of yourself. Sleep when you need to sleep. Eat well, exercise, do yoga, cut out caffeine and lessen your intake of sugar. All these things will improve your anxiety. Also, remember your tools you learned during therapy. The deep breathing, writing in a daily journal. Do the TEA Forms. Maybe pick up a CBT book either by David Burns or Sam Obitz. Both can help you cope if you don't want to go back to therapy.

I am not taking meds so I can't help you out with that part of your post, but I do suffer from an anxiety disorder and am currently doing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Any anti-depressant can be considered short term if you don't feel you will need it all of the time. Of course, how really do we know if we need it or not? If you felt a drug you took in the past worked for you, consider asking your doctor to prescribe it again. If you would rather try another, then do that.
