lovelust Posted January 4, 2006 Share Posted January 4, 2006 Hello everyone, I'm once again in a tug-of-war match between my current gf and my family. every gf i get they always seem to find something wrong with her then get around the table and talk about it. The main family members who constantly do this is my mom and aunt. Lastnight my cousin came home from her trip and decided to tell us all about it (me, my aunt and my mom). Out of nowhere my aunt starts to say "Larin your girlfriend should cook and clean your room when she comes over here instead of just sitting in your room looking at movies". She then goes on to say all she want is a flunky and need to get off her back and ask if there is anything that needs to be done around the house. My mom then jumped in and said she is right. This hurt me alot because I really like my girlfriend, yet i have to deal with the two of them observing her with a microscope just to find something to talk about. They did the same exact thing with my previous girlfriend. Now i feel terrible and is under alot of stress because of this. It's like one side is telling me i should listen to them because family knows "best", yet my other side is telling me i should know if my girlfriend is like this and i have the right to stay with her. I'm sorry but i dont see no reason for my girlfriend to clean MY room and cook. She is my GIRLFRIEND not my wife. She works and goes to college, she shouldnt have to get off of work and come over my house then proceed to clean my room and ask to make dinner. She comes over my house to get away from it all and relax NOT engage in chores. I dont think a woman who rides the subway from manhattan to brooklyn just to see YOU only wants you to be her flunky... curiousnycgirl Posted January 5, 2006 Share Posted January 5, 2006 I completely agree with you - she is not your flunky, nor is she your mother's. Sounds like your mom is either just looking to push your buttons or has completely unreasonable expectations. I had similiar issues when I lived at home (decades ago) - I simply stopped having my friends to my house to hang out. My parent's couldn't complain about someone they don't know and/or never see! Why is she schlepping from Manhattan to Brooklyn to see you anyway? Why can't you go see her? Or take her out? Link to post Share on other sites

I go to her house on Holidays are when i dont feel like having my family stare down our necks, she does not have cable at her house so she always comes over mine to look at TV.
