If the doctor explains to your dad that anxiety is actually a chemical imbalance in the brain maybe he will understand better. Chemical imbalance is not something you have control over no matter how hard you try.

my dad is willfully ignorant. in this day and age he has no reason to have all these radical "opinions" he will seriously tell himself and me that he knows better than someone who is actually educated in the medical field.

im still going to try to talk to him about all the physical symptoms of anxiety ive been experiencing and tell him that I need to see a doctor. if he doesn't understand there's really nothing I can tell myself other than oh well.

I think where the problem comes in is when they try to give or suggest treatment for me, (rather that be medication or therapy as some of the comments said) which is where parental approval is needed.
thank you for your suggestions.

When you say "parental approval" are you talking about your dad paying for the treatment?

I would assume that it would be paid for with insurance. but no, I mean that it's a state law.

So a person under the age of 18 cannot receive any medication prescribed by a doctor without parental approval?  That's nuts!

How long till you turn 18?

since I already "graduated", I don't have an option to go to a school nurse or guidance counselor.
my dad rarely goes to the doctor with me anymore, so it would be easy to talk to my doctor alone.  I think where the problem comes in is when they try to give or suggest treatment for me, (rather that be medication or therapy as some of the comments said) which is where parental approval is needed.

Okay, have the doc write a prescription and have a parent sign off on it. Also, if you are attending college, your tuition covers mental health counseling on campus.

Either you want to pursue treatment or not. If so, do what it takes to get it done.
