Why does a man that has cheated on one wife for year with different women get into a new relationship and just stop cheating?

As a former cheater, I think I might be qualified to answer that.

There are several possible explanations here.

1) Very few people cheat as soon as they enter a new relationship. Sometimes it takes years before the initial excitement and novelty wear off and the old nasty habit kicks in. The man might cheat again later.

2) There were insurmountable problems in the initial relationship, to the point that the man used cheating as an escape from the pain or an easy solution to the marital problems. When the obviously false solution failed, he divorced. He isn’t likely to cheat again in a new relationship unless it also has grave problems, at which point he might cheat again.

3) Some cheaters reform. The change is typically gradual and slow. It is possible that he truly repented his behavior, has realized the immorality of cheating, is in a happy relationship now and won’t cheat again.

It is impossible to know which of the three explanations is correct without more context. Sometimes it’s impossible even with detailed knowledge of the events and the man’s character. People are unpredictable, and they can change.

He does not cheat because it's new. Give it a bit of time.
